#185. 'Fast X'

Listen to this episode ↗on Substack, where the show lives now

The trio is split on Fast X (which Mike insists on calling "Fast 10"): JVL loved it without reservation — "I haven't had this much fun in a movie theater in months" — framing it as the franchise's Avengers: Infinity War moment and singling out Jason Momoa's villain, a scene-stealing "gay Joker" doing his rip Taylor bit while painting the toenails of corpses, as the best thing in the series; Sonny hated it, arguing it's really five disconnected movies stitched together with cheap-looking green screen (he's convinced half the cast never shared a room), a hollowed-out "it's about family" theme repeated every five minutes, and a villain performance he compares to Lars von Trier's The House That Jack Built; and Mike, with almost no franchise context beyond the first three films, found it boring enough to nearly fall asleep despite the noise. Before the movie talk, the guys spend a long stretch on Mike's saga trying to get HBO Max's ugly rebrand to "Max" working on his Roku TV, which spirals into a rant with JVL and Sonny about the folly of media conglomerates smushing separate apps into one "everything" service (with a detour through ABC's infamous yellow-logo rebrand). Sonny also reviews The Little Mermaid remake, dinging its mostly-forgettable new songs and the cut "Les Poissons" number, and reminiscing about John Stamos's definitive live Disney Channel version of the same scene — which kicks off a genuine fight when JVL declares the entire Disney Renaissance, including the original Aladdin, to be bad, with Sonny insisting he's just a jaded old man. The episode closes with a happy-birthday shoutout to longtime OG patron Tanya.

From the show notes

It's five different movies about family.

Mike00:00:00Welcome to the Sub-Beacon Podcast, I'm your co-host Mike Warren. With me as always are my two co-hosts who are constantly reminding me that it's all about family, Jonathan V. Last and Sonny Bunch. Follow us at subbeacon.com where you can become a patron, listen, comment, join the community, join the family, if you will. Just know that when you become a patron, you not only get instant access to our main episodes, but you also get exclusive access to our bonus episodes, maybe a little more about that later in the show. So join us over at subbeacon.com. We'll be talking about fast 10 or fast X fast 10 a little later in the show. But first Jonathan, how are you?
JVL00:01:13I'm concerned. We're not doing enough time on the movies. I've the last few weeks we've been doing like 40 minutes of like 20 minutes of chatting and then 20 minutes of topic B and then, and honestly, I feel like we need a good three hours to talk about fast and the furious, the infinity war. And, uh, I'm, I'm so excited to do that, that I, I yield the remainder of my time, sir.
Mike00:01:36Wow. I mean, if we did do dudes chatting for too long, we would have to do a two part, maybe even a three part episode on fast 10. So, okay. Fair enough. Sonny, what's going on with you?
Sonny00:01:47I have the exact opposite feeling about this movie. I feel like we should do 40 minutes of dudes chatting and then five minutes on Jason Momoa and then go to the bonus episode while I'm moderating.
Mike00:01:59So it looks like it's up to me. Yeah.
Sonny00:02:02The tiebreaker. Um, I, uh, my, I don't, I don't really have anything super interesting going on in my life, but I did go see the new, uh, little mermaid movie, um, or, or, uh, you know, for to write a review about and little woke mermaid. Yes. Um, uh, the, the, the weird thing about this movie is that they have three new, there are three new songs and two of them are, two of them are like kind of boring and terrible. One's actually not terrible. Uh, and it's kind of interesting, but it's, it's a rap between scuttle who is voiced by
JVL00:02:34aquafina and, uh, they had to find a, a part for aquafina somewhere because every movie you can't have an animated movie without aquafina. I will say that any movie made without aquafina, she, she does have a unique enough voice that
Sonny00:02:48I actually kind of like having her show up in these things because it just is ridiculous. She sounds, she's, she's a ridiculous sounding person. Um, and I, I, I kind of like her in, in that role. And in this, uh, this, this rap, it's a rap between scuttle and Sebastian and Sebastian is voiced by David digs, who, uh, is from Hamilton, uh, and it's, it's actually not, it's actually not terrible. And it's kind of amusing, but they don't have, I, I mentioned this to you guys before, uh, we got started today. They don't have . I love that song so much. Because it, it conform, it conforms to all of my stereotypes about the French, first of all. And also, uh, also musical theater, the kind of ridiculous and like, it's even got like the kick line bit at the end that, uh, I, I re I've always loved that song and they cut it. They cut it from the movie. Um, and I, I, and at first I was kind of annoyed by this, but that on the other hand, I, I kind of, I kind of get where they're coming from because like the thing about all of these, I think we're not gonna be doing the little mermaid, uh, for at least next week.
Mike00:04:02I thought that was next week. Sure. I would rather at least God.
Sonny00:04:05No, I'd rather, I'd rather jump into the ocean than have to talk about this on more than one. Cause we're gonna be, we're gonna be, we're gonna be talking about it on across the movie. I really don't wanna have to talk about it on two shows. Um, but the, uh, but what, what, uh, well, I, I, the thing about these live action remakes is that, you know, they go for this kind of whole photo realistic aesthetic with the animals. And so like in, in, in, in, in the. Lion King, you have like an actual warthog and, uh, you know, little weasel guy for Timon and Puma, and it looks awful and like kind of terrifying. And in this movie flounder essentially looks like a nightmare version of big mouth, Billy Bass, like it's, it's really, it's really, it's really disconcerting and awful, but like I could imagine a, a version of Le Poisson where they're doing, where they're like, where the fish, where the. Staff is cutting up like actual photo, realistic fishes, and it just sends children screaming from the theater. Like I could see that and I could understand why they wouldn't shoot it. I'm still a little disappointed.
JVL00:05:10Well, so I, I think part of the reason is also, I, I assume you both watched the, uh, the, my, my, is this on? Yeah. Can you hear me? Oh, I can hear you. Sorry. My, my, on my end, it's not looking, uh, it says app is not focused. Maybe that's why. Hey, unimportant. Listen in you guys watched the little mermaid live. But Disney did. I know I never, I did not watch that.
Sonny00:05:32You didn't. It was like last year. I don't even know what that was.
JVL00:05:35What is that? Uh, so Disney occasionally does on Disney channel, these unbelievably elaborate, uh, live interpretations of shows. And the staging on them is one of the craziest things I've, I've ever seen in my life. And the little mermaid one was outstanding. And John Stamos. Played the chef and got to, got to do let Poisson. And it was so per he was so perfect. It could never be replicated or done better. And as part of the gags, like, you know, he's throwing, cause when I say done live, I mean, they have a theater with, you know, a thousand people in the audience, like around them while they're doing it on stage. And he's throwing like rubber fish out to the crowd as he's in the middle of doing this. There's flour everywhere. Like there are ways to do it funny, but you can't do it better than that.
Mike00:06:34Yeah. I guess. But also isn't the, isn't a one could conceit or a sort of, of these live action remakes. It's like, it like takes it way too seriously. Right? Like, like I would say I haven't seen any of them, but all the marketing like of these movies, whether it's a little mermaid or it's like over the top earnestness.
Sonny00:06:58Well, I remember. I remember in the beauty and the beast remake, they have like a whole subplot where they're explaining why Bell's father had to flee from Paris. It's because of the plague. He's wearing like a plague mask and there's like, it's a, it, they had to, they had to get out of there because of horrible disease. Um, and, and this one they're, they're trying, they're trying really hard to make this, um, really elaborate point, actually a very basic point and they do it so poorly, but a very basic point about, uh, uh, we need. We need to bring societies together. The, the underwater people and the people on the land are at war with each other for no good reason.
JVL00:07:36And when everybody should just get along and like, it's because Orm, the ocean master is being, oh, wrong, wrong, wrong cinematic universe.
Sonny00:07:45Uh, I don't know. I, I, I. Who's the director on this Sonny? It's Rob Marshall. Who I don't.
JVL00:07:51Rob Marshall. You know what? Uh, th this is wait, did Rob Marshall direct the first Fast and Furious movie? Hmm. I may have to have for that, uh, for that, uh, this is look, there's a reason that Aladdin is the only one of these live action movies that works. And part of it is it has to be a better, like these things are only gonna work for really bad movies. And, uh, Aladdin is a really, really bad movie. The, the original and, uh, Guy Ritchie improves it in every way.
Sonny00:08:25What are you talking about? What are you talking about? You're crazy.
JVL00:08:28Aladdin.
Sonny00:08:28Aladdin. Aladdin's great. Aladdin is fantastic. Movie. What are you talking about? Aladdin? Robin Williams voiced Aladdin.
JVL00:08:35Great movie. Absolutely. Terrible movie with terrible music. Great.
Sonny00:08:39Great songs.
?00:08:40Only world.
Sonny00:08:41The signs are terrific. Yeah.
JVL00:08:43This is, this is just contrarians, honey. It's not. It's no, this is a beloved film. I agree. This is a beloved. You're too old.
Sonny00:08:49You're see, you're, you were a jaded 18 year old when that came out, you were like jaded
JVL00:08:5713 year old. This is. It's a terrible.
Sonny00:09:00No, you were. That movie came out in 91 or 92.
Mike00:09:03I think. Yeah.
Sonny00:09:0592 because. Uh, cuz I was like nine or 10. I was like nine or 10 when that came out.
Mike00:09:09And I was, I was like, I was like five or six.
Sonny00:09:10You must, you must have been 18. You're too cool for Aladdin. You're like, oh, look at, look at Robin Williams. Such a try hard. Oh, William F. Buckley. Oh yeah. I get it. I get your references.
Mike00:09:21That was you at age 19 watching, but you, but you JVL, you liked the, the guy Richie version. Loved Michael. Not liked. You did love that. I, I didn't. By the, by the way, Rob Cohen was the director of. Ah, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Rob Marshall directed Chicago.
Sonny00:09:39Yeah.
JVL00:09:40Rob Marshall. Yes. Yeah. Was yes.
Sonny00:09:44That makes much more sense. Much more sense. Wrong. Rob. Yeah. He also did. He also did pirates of the Caribbean on stranger tides, which I think is the mermaid one.
Mike00:09:51Weirdly. Ooh. Isn't it? I don't know. I don't, I don't, I didn't, I didn't see that one. The last one I saw was the one with the crabs in like the little white void area.
Sonny00:09:58I don't know. All of those movies blend together for me. They're all one giant mush of Johnny.
Mike00:10:05Well, very, very quickly back to, to liposome from when you sent that video, I was reminded that it is the same melody as be our guest from, uh, from BD and the beast. And it's like, kind of, it's just kind of interesting because Alan Menken did the music on, I mean, he did on like all of those Disney Renaissance movies.
JVL00:10:26So Alan Menken is a hack.
Mike00:10:28Yeah. Yeah. He's, he's self-plagiarizing.
JVL00:10:31I mean, none of these songs are good. None of the, all the entire Disney Renaissance, the entire Disney Renaissance is bad. That's ridiculous.
Sonny00:10:41It's all bad.
JVL00:10:42Little mermaid is bad. Lion King is bad. They're all bad.
Sonny00:10:45You're wrong. You're just wrong. You are again, you were just a jaded. You're a jaded older teen, young 20 something when this came out, you're grumpy because
Mike00:10:54the Disney movies that you grew up with were the Fox and the hound, which is a garbage
Sonny00:10:58garbage movie.
JVL00:10:59All the Disney movies of my era were garbage as well. Yes.
Sonny00:11:03Okay.
JVL00:11:04Well, you admit that you got a ridiculous Robin hood. Have you ever seen the Disney Robin hood from the seventies?
Mike00:11:08Oh, we watch it all the time in my house.
JVL00:11:10Oh, you're kidding.
Mike00:11:11Oh, I grew up with that.
JVL00:11:13Loved it. Yeah. With the, uh, the, the P the characters running on the repeating background.
Sonny00:11:18Yeah.
Mike00:11:19Which was, which was also, which was reusing, right. Yeah. It was reused, uh, scenes from animation from the jungle book. So, um, it's terrific. All right. All right. All right. Mike, how are you? Should I, should I go on a rant here? Yeah. Do a full Dennis Miller. I think I, I talked to you guys about this over text. So on, I was out of town for work at the beginning of the week and I came back on Tuesday for, uh, you know, I came home, saw the kids, everything, you know, uh, uh, T-ball practice over, uh, me and the wife settled down in the basement to watch a little TV before we go to bed. And what do we, what do we want to watch? We want to watch something on HBO max. And I had, I had forgotten what had happened in the time. It was like, it was like when I came home, the entire world changed. Look what they did to my boy, little HBO max boy. Uh, so I click on my HBO, by the way, my Roku TV has is, is already out of date because it has the little button on the remote to go to HBO max.
JVL00:12:27You know, that, you know, the Warner disc. Every paid for that button. Yeah. Oh, they did. Those, those buttons are revenue streams for Roku, huge real estate, huge real estate, like the end cap. And, uh, you know, the end cap in the grocery store, you get put on the end cap, you're paying for it. You get a Roku dedicated button. You're paying.
Mike00:12:44Well, I guess it was a sunk cost because they had to move forward with max. So HBO max, and it starts to load up and I'm like, oh, maybe, maybe they at the last minute decided. Not to, to go with the max route, but then it, it like, it was like record scratch. And then it moved to that, that ugly blue max color for the, and it, and it, and it told me on the screen, it's like some combination of HBO max is now max. All you have to do is upgrade and you'll be able to watch all of your shows. And then like at the very bottom, like tiny little, uh, text, it said. Uh, you know, if there's a problem, go to max.com/upgrade, whatever, blah, blah, blah, blah. So I'm sitting there on the screen and it's telling me just all you have to do is upgrade. Nothing else I can do. There's no button to press to go upgrade anything. There's no, like, there's no, like go back to home to home and download the max app. There's no instruction whatsoever. Okay. So I'm sitting there. What do I do? I go back home. I go to my home Roku screen and I'm like, what am I, oh, I know what I'll do. I'll just, what they really want me to do is just install max as an app. So I'll go search for max. I'll download max. I'll log into max with my HBO max login credentials, my cred, uh, and everything will be fine. So I go to max search max. Oh, there's max. There's the stupid little blue logo with the little, that, that very. Iconic circle in the, a, whatever that, yeah. Circle. Um, so I click on the little window for max and it takes me back to the HBO max app, where it's like, all you have to do is upgrade. I'm like, I've already been here. So at this point it's getting late, it's getting to like nine 15. So like we're pushing, can we watch Christ? Can we watch an hour long show? We're already asleep. At this point. Exactly. So I finally like engineer, I figure it out because I'm a smart guy. You know, I have figured these things out. I'm smart.
Sonny00:15:09Not like people say like dumb.
Mike00:15:11So I on download HBO max, which I never had to do on this TV because it was already loaded on. So, but I, I, I removed HBO max.
Sonny00:15:21Yes. Question. Are you using, are you using a Roku TV or a Roku stick?
Mike00:15:26Oh, no. A Roku TV.
Sonny00:15:28Yeah. So you have a, you have a TV with the Roku OS TCL, right?
Mike00:15:31No, it's not a TCL. It's a, it's an American sense. It's maybe it's high sense. It's it's an American company. It's the only, it's the only TV that's it's like made in South Carolina.
Sonny00:15:43I think it's assembled in South Carolina. I don't, I don't think they actually like make the parts.
Mike00:15:48Right. Right. Um, anyway, it, it, um, I got it at target. So I, I on download or uninstall. The HBO max app, and then go right back to where I was originally, which was searched max found max clicked on max added max. Now max works. Now I can log in in the stupid, ugly blue. I hate the blue. I hate the blue, the blue interface. And then like, it's like Warner brothers discovery, just like crapped all their content onto this ugly page. I have to like search through to find for trying to watch succession. And it's just the whole experience. From the actual, like having to navigate there and upgrade it to just like looking at all, like, I don't care about all these reality shows. Don't show me chip and Joanna gains. Like, I don't care about that. Shit. Like it, it's, it, it just, everything about it just was like, drove me up the wall.
JVL00:16:46So if you, if you were the owner of Cartier and you had a, a number, you owned a number of Cartier boutiques and you then found yourself. Also owning dollar general, would you think to yourself, ooh, ooh, we have some synergies here. I could just smush them together because all the Cartier people would probably really like what dollar general says. And all the dollar general people will probably be like, well, we're just gonna make it, uh, the general general.
Mike00:17:16Yeah.
JVL00:17:17Right. Uh, I, I don't think that would be the case. I do not believe that. The people who generally like with the very fine shows, which discovery offers, which are. Very fine. Very fine. Uh, are probably the people who also watch succession, uh, and here's the thing I really don't get because, and maybe you guys can explain to me, cuz cap, you guys love capitalism so much. How is it possible that the marginal returns on this change over marginal returns, meaning every dollar that they would have earned above and beyond what they were earning. And with the two thing, the two products separate, how is it possible that those returns could possibly counter the immense costs of doing this thing? Because I don't see how it is possible. And this, this happens all the time in business. People do like shit like this and you just look at it and you're like, oh, this isn't the market. This is like three fucking idiots who are simply have ascended to a high enough level that they've decided this is what we do.
Sonny00:18:27Well, they're, they're, they're like five different questions here. You're asking like five. So, so the big, the biggest problem here is that everybody thinks that they need a Netflix style app where it's all in one, you go there and you get everything and that, that that's what everyone thinks. And this is also a Disney is probably going to end up moving to with Hulu and ESPN plus. We will end up in a situation where you have Disney plus Hulu ESPN. That's actually how it is in most of the rest of the world. It's not how it is in America. It is. It is in most of the rest of the world. That's what, that's what the thinking here is for Warner brothers discovery. They think we need one app that everyone goes to and we'll, we'll funnel everybody into this app and then they'll, they'll get all this stuff. I have always thought that this was insane. I've always thought I never, this has never made any sense to me. The, the, the, the way that Disney doesn't now makes perfect sense to me. You have three separate apps, you offer a discount if you get all three of them. So basically like the one you don't use ends up being free. There anyway. So like a lot of people don't necessarily watch anything on Hulu, they, but they do like ESPN plus they, and they, they like Disney or I, I feel like mostly it happens the other way that people watch Hulu and Disney, but not that much ESPN plus stuff.
Mike00:19:42Cause ESPN plus stuff is like, it's like the garbage soccer and it's like, it's like the
Sonny00:19:47garbage stuff. ESPN doesn't have space for on their, on their air times. So like that, that has always made sense to me, this idea of having three separate apps and you, and you. Can watch what you want, depending on, but the, the business theory of this is that people don't want to switch apps. They wanna stay in the same app. And furthermore, if you get people staying in the same app, you can get them to do other things within that app that, that you, that they wouldn't necessarily do if it's just, if you, if you have trained them to think of it just as places for TV shows. So this is the metaverse argument. This is the, you know, I, I talked about this with Matt ball on bulwark goes to Hollywood. The, the theory here is if you have a Disney plus app that not only has all of the Hulu stuff and all the Disney stuff and all the ESPN stuff, people will also like buy park tickets for ESPN.
JVL00:20:39The park tickets there. Right.
Sonny00:20:41And they wouldn't have done that if they were only like, this is this or, or like, or with, or with max, right? The, the theory here is maybe in two years you can put Hogwarts legacy on max and people will play it right there in the app. Maybe. I don't know. I find all of this. I find all of this insane. I think it's, I think, I don't think it makes sense for anybody except for Netflix. And like, it makes sense for like, it makes sense for NBC universal because then it's just like, we are NBC and also all of the, like, if you, uh, let me, let me rephrase that slightly. I feel like if you start out being an everything app, it's fine. I think if you have something like peacock where it's like, not only are we NBC and we're all the peacock stuff, but we're also like sci-fi network. And all the other Comcast owned or whatever, you know, NBC universal owned brands, like it's all right there. Uh, or with paramount plus, right. Where it's like, we're paramount plus, and we've got all the CBS stuff. And also we're doing the Viacom stuff and like, it's all right there. Like if you start doing it that way, it's fine. It's when you try and combine them that it doesn't, I think make any sense. And the real, the real funny thing about all this is that they're only doing it to HBO max. So like they've only, they've only gotten. Get rid of HBO max and compress that down to max discovery plus remains its own separate standalone thing that you can get all of the discovery plus stuff on. So it's like, they've taken the, I, like I, the thing about H the thing about HBO is that it is has four years for, for decades been a monumentally profitable brand, right? Like enormously billions of dollars a year. They were making, I like to the extent that I was shocked, I was actually shocked when I thought Warner brothers and AT&T was like, what are we supposed to do with HBO? It only makes a billion dollars a year. And I'm just like, wait, it makes how much money it makes.
JVL00:22:36How much money does this, this network, which is when the AT&T people decided that what HBO needed to do was it just needed to do everything it did, but at a hundred shows a year instead of four shows a year, right?
Sonny00:22:47They were, they were like, we need to buy a hose of content. So like I, the whole thing is very confused. So HBO still exists. It exists within a hub on, on max. You gotta find the HBO hub and it's there. But I'm like, Mike, I turn it on and I scroll down a level and it's like five home improvement shows and I'm just like, fuck off. I don't want any of this.
Mike00:23:08I don't, I don't want it. And it's also, it is, I mean the, the counter argument to everything you just described Sonny is, but it's all in one app. I mean, literally there is nothing else. It's like, it's, it, it is like spinal tap, like, why don't you just make 10 louder? It's like, but this, this app is, is, is it's all in one app. There is no argument and it was like, it reflects the vision of people who don't actually watch TV this way.
Sonny00:23:40But this is, and this is what I've always hated about Netflix is that it's just everything. Like there's too much stuff on Netflix, like there's, there's, there, there's no, there's no way. I mean, there, there are ways, but it's, it's just, there's just too much stuff. There's there's, I hate it. I hate just scrolling through Netflix.
Mike00:23:56All I know is this. My kids who watch TV flip between the apps with, with perfect, no problem at all. They know how to work it. They know that grizzly and the lemmings is on Netflix, that bluey and the other shows are on Disney plus they can flip flop between them. And you know what they could even do the shocking because, uh, I guess max is gonna, like you say, add the, the Harry Potter video game to it. They know how to go turn on the switch and flip to the switch part of the TV. And do that when they're ready to do that. Like, yeah, nobody watches TV this way.
JVL00:24:32There's this fantasy of app lock in where if we just do it the best way, then, then nobody will ever leave the app and they'll never go to other people, which is insane.
Sonny00:24:44It's insane. It's insane. And it, it, it also helps that like I, so I have an Apple TV plus, uh, I have an Apple TV, um, in addition to having Apple TV plus the channel, but I have an Apple TV. And one of the nice things about the Apple TV is that the app with it. It, it acts like a, um, it acts like a DVR in a way, in the sense that like, it just tells me what like the next shows are on all of my various streaming apps. So I can just go right to the Apple TV app and I'm like, what's next. Boom. I'm watching that. What's it, it doesn't work with Netflix. And there's one other one that I don't think it, it works with, but like it works with everything else. And it's just like, I'm gonna go watch this. I'm gonna go watch this. Perfect. This works great. And like that, that is ideal. That's that's the ideal way to do all this. Anyway.
JVL00:25:26I, I. I love watching, uh, rich executive assholes waste money. This reminded me a lot of the ABC rebrand. Do you remember this like 15 years ago, ABC paid some insane amount of money because they were in third place thing over here. And what they're, what they came up with was yellow. This is, you know, the, the, the ad agency came out and like, we're gonna rebrand ABC everywhere with yellow. It'll be the same logo, but the logo will be yellow. And then we'll make the logo blue for sports. And this is
Mike00:26:02Oh, because sports are blue and everything else is yellow.
JVL00:26:09It was anyway. And you know, somebody, some, some committee of overeducated, incredibly rich masters of the universe. People sat there and signed off on this and said, yes, we should spend $25 million of our budget. And then God knows how many millions of dollars in execution. When this is rebranding, I just look, I, they all deserve to die.
Mike00:26:32That's all. I'm sorry. I'll stop. Well, should we, uh, should we move on? Because JVL look, I'm trying to split the baby here. So let's time to fast 10, your seat belts as we dive into the main event here. But actually even before we do that, let's talk very quickly about the box office. Let's start at number five. We have evil dead rise at number five this past weekend, then book club, the next chapter, all the same, all same movies up, up to number one, uh, that we've seen in recent weeks. Number three, super Mario brothers movies still, still going strong. Number two, guardians of the galaxy volume three. Um, and then we have the debut of fast 10. I call it fast 10. You guys like to call it fast X, um, $67 million at the box office in its opening weekend. Number one. The opening weekend. Any quick box office thoughts about fast 10?
JVL00:27:31I, I, why have some quick top box office thought about super Mario brothers, Sean McNulty observed this week that it is tracking week over week on par with top gun Maverick. It has made almost as much money at the point of whatever we are now and like week six or week eight as top gun Maverick had made by week six or week eight. Yeah. And that is so depressing to me. I don't even know where to start, but it makes sense.
Mike00:27:57Actually think of all, I think of all, I just, my kids, you know, like every kid in their class has seen it. Like that.
Sonny00:28:04That's not the case with it. It's gonna fall off here a bit because the little mermaid is gonna take over that slot of like kids movie.
JVL00:28:11I hope so. I just paid $30 on the Amazon premier to buy it so that a G money could watch it at home. And I wouldn't be forced to take him to the theater to see it again because he was dying
Sonny00:28:20to see it again, supporting, supporting super Mario brothers. It's great. I like to see the Italians.
Mike00:28:27Sonny had a fast and a $67 million at the box office. Thoughts. So how does this, how does this compare to, do we know how this compares with the other?
Sonny00:28:36Well, it's interesting because it's, it's worse than fast nine and fast eight and fast seven. So like one, one thing that this does show is that the, the movie fast nine did about as well as it would have, regardless of pandemic status. Right. There's, there's been some question for a while, like how much the pandemic was impacting.
Mike00:28:58Cause, cause fast nine came out in 2021, right?
Sonny00:29:01Yeah. So fast nine was one of the first like right. Blockbuster type movies to, you know, to, to be exclusive to theaters. And it did fine. It did, it did fine. But people were like, well, this is, you know, this is lower than fast eight and that's probably because of the pandemic. And this movie is gonna be, I think lower than, than fast nine. So I, I, I would discount pandemic related excuses. For the box office on these films. I mean like it's gonna gross $800 million worldwide, but that's, that's a mild problem because this did cost, I think something like 300 million to make you and you can see it all on screen.
JVL00:29:40You sure can.
Sonny00:29:41You can see it all on the green screen. I don't think anybody, I don't think any two actors in this movie were ever in the same room together. Never. Never.
Mike00:29:50I don't, I'm like, can we, can we, can we get into that in a second? I do wanna, I do wanna ask one question though about box office real quick. What do we expect with Memorial day weekend for there to be a, a sort of an unusual bump or, or a slow, slower drop than might be expected for fast tent, fast X.
Sonny00:30:09Uh, I mean, I, I.
Mike00:30:13Is that usually happen?
Sonny00:30:14Well, I, I, I don't, uh, I'm, it depends on if you're looking at the three or four day. I mean, if you look at the four day, it's gonna be a lower drop just cuz there's more days. Fair enough. Fair enough. Okay. Three day. I mean, three days. Three days. Because some of those people shift to watch on Mondays, like I, or, or there might be, or there might be a lower drop because Sunday is a, is like a weekend night. I don't know. I honestly don't know the answer to that. What, what usually happens there? It's probably something I should know, but, uh, all right, well then why don't we just
Mike00:30:42jump into it and, uh, get into fast 10, Sonny big boy review time.
Sonny00:30:47I, I, I hate this movie. Um, I, I don't like any of these movies. I've never been, uh, a fan of the fast and furious franchise. So I'm not, I'm not usually, I'm not often the person to ask on this, um, sort of picture, but like what, what the thing that jumps out at me about, uh, this movie is that it really is like five different movies in one. Like there, there are, there are five very discreet films happening all kind of adjacent to each other and they never really cohere into a, a, a solid thing. And like, I think part, I mean, look, part of this is just a logistics problem. Like you got a lot of different big name actors in their various sequences and getting them all together in the same place is tricky, but like part of it is also just like the series is so big and unwieldy now that there are, there are a ton of different things happening. I mean like you, you have, all right, so you've got like an overarching movie that is essentially Vin Diesel, uh, versus Jason Momoa, right? Like that's one of, that's one of the movies. Um, then you've got another movie where Jason Statham shows up. To hang out with Tyrese and ludicrous for like five minutes. And then he's gone. That's, that's, that's a separate, the Tyrese ludicrous, um, uh, movie is an entirely different thing with like wacky zany guest appearances. Like Pete Davidson shows up and like, I like that, that's a, that's a whole nother movie. Then you've got John Cena, who's in like an action comedy, uh, coming of age, like got a wacky kid movie, um, again, entirely almost, almost entirely distinct from. Everything else until right at the very end, it intersects with, I had at least five. Then you've got the Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez movie, which is like a jailbreak movie. Um, uh, we're there in Antarctica for some reason. Um, and then you've got Brie Larson who is playing the he's she's playing the daughter of Kurt Russell's, uh, Mr. Nobody and she is like kind of the Nick Fury here, pulling everybody together and trying to figure out what the conspiracy at the heart of. All this is, but again, she like shows up and I swear to God, I do not think she is ever in the same scene with anybody, except for that one scene where Michelle Rodriguez like grabs her by the neck, right? Like every other scene it's she's standing against like a blue screen backdrop, shooting a gun at somebody. And then it cuts to like the gunfire. I like I'm, I'm halfway convinced that she has never met Vin diesel in the scene where
JVL00:33:20she and Vin diesel are in the, uh, in the bar together. You think that that is, we don't get the two of them on. On screen at the same time there, cuz I'm thinking about it and I don't, I, you may be right.
Mike00:33:31No, I don't know. I think it was just doubles.
Sonny00:33:33Right? I don't know. And, and the whole movie is kind of like this too. Like there's this, there's this shot, uh, there's this shot, um, in, uh, I think it's Brazil. Are they in Brazil? They're in Rio where they're, they're, they're about to have a street race and the camera
JVL00:33:46does this like digital move through all four of the, all four of the cars.
Sonny00:33:52And very clearly, like none of them are in the same place. None of them are there. And it's just like a series of composites on top of each other. And I like the whole movie feels like this. It feels, it feels, it feels fake in a way that is monumentally grading. Like I, I just, I hated, I hated everything about the look and the feel and the storytelling of this movie. Like it feel it's haphazardly slapped together in terms of how it's edited. It's it, it, it, it's, it's this weird franchise that midway through its run stumbled onto. An idea. And now like holds that idea obsessively and like says it every five minutes to remind you that somebody, so somebody joked on, somebody joked on Twitter, hold on, Mike, I I'll say what the idea is here in a second, but somebody joked. I saw somebody joke on Twitter that, um, that, you know, uh, the, the reason these movies are fun is because they're so unapologetically goofy and that's not true at all. This movie is constantly apologizing for itself. That's why, that's why, that's why every three minutes Vin Diesel has to say it's about family. It's about family. We got John Cena here. He's family. We got Jason Momoa. We killed his dad and now he wants revenge for his family. Like it's a, it's, it's not an idea. It's not an idea, but it thinks it's an idea. It's like irritably gesturing at an idea. And I, I hate that part of it. The only thing that is interesting about this movie is Jason Momoa. And we, it's funny, uh, JVL and I were texting with Jon Podhoretz. I think maybe, or maybe I was just texting with him, but like the, uh, but the, the only way to describe Jason Momoa in this film is that he's channeling rip Taylor to play the joker. Yes.
JVL00:35:39He's playing. He's playing gay joker. That's what it is. He's playing gay joker. Someone said to him, we want you to play the joker, Heath Ledger's joker, but you're gonna be rip Taylor. And so you're also comic relief, right? You're both of those things. You are the heavy and the comic relief. Go.
Sonny00:35:57And so, and so like there are, there are ways you can make that work. And I think, I think he does basically make it work because again, it's the only interesting thing in this movie.
JVL00:36:09It's the only works. And what do you mean? I think he makes it. It's amazing.
Sonny00:36:13No, I mean, it's also terrible. I mean, it's amazing. And it's terrible. It's like, uh, it's yeah, but it's like, um, it's like watching a nuclear explosion. Yeah. You're like, wow. I bet there's a lot of dead bodies there, but it does look pretty cool. Um, the, the, the, the, I like, again, the comic relief thing is that's right. Except like it, they do it in the weirdest, most awful sort of way. So there's a scene in this movie where Jason Momoa is painting the toes of some corpses because again, gay joker. So he's painting their toes and talking about how fabulous they are and his hair is like pulled up in a scrunchie and they're dead. But they're not like weekend at Bernie's kind of like humorously dead. They're like stiff corpse eyes. It's open with flies on the eyes. And it's like, it is literally, so there's this movie that nobody who is listening right now has seen, uh, and I'm sure you guys haven't seen, but there's this movie called the house that Jack built that Lars Von Trier made Lars Von Trier, notorious asshole. And the whole point of this movie is like, I'm an asshole making asshole movies. Look at how grotesque I am. And there's a scene, um, that is, uh, uh, it takes place at a dinner table where, uh, the main character who is a serial killer has posed. The rigor mortis set in corpses of a child and his mother, and he's having like a whole conversation with them and it's awful and, and grotesque. And that's what this reminded me of. It didn't remind me of like funny weekend at Bernie's corpses. It reminded me of grotesque Lars Von Von Trier corpses. And that's what I'm talking about. Like tonally, it's all wrong. Everything with his performance is wrong, but that's why it's interesting because, and again, like this is not a series that has ever aspired to being interesting. I'm, I'm like, I'm fascinated by this decision, but I, I dunno, I, again, he's the only thing in this movie that works. The rest of it is terrible JVL and bad JVL.
Mike00:38:07I please, Michael, go ahead. No, no, no. You have something to say. No, I do not have anything. I want to hear what you have to say, because you seem to, you seem to not only like the Jason Momoa portrayal, but you seem to almost like this movie by almost, almost like it.
JVL00:38:24I loved it. Okay. I haven't had this much fun in a movie theater in months. It, uh, you know, no, these movies do not have ideas. They are not interesting. They are when they work fun and they don't all work. The last three were miserable slogs, uh, like really, really bad, unfun things that felt like they were being done for paychecks and this feels from tip to tail, like everybody, there is having a good time. It's the first time I've ever seen Brie Larson on screen when she wasn't annoying. I've never seen Brie Larson not be annoying and she's, she's kind of delightful in this. Uh, Michelle Rodriguez is having a great time. Everybody's enjoying themselves. It's it's almost a romp in that way. And yet at, at the heart of it, it is Avengers infinity war for the fast and furious, you know, we've brought back every character that you've met throughout the entire series. Everybody's there. How do you get the rock in a picture? So you see him, okay. Uh, and you, you see Paul you're muted, Sonny M uh, the rock also shows up in a post credit scene. Oh, I stick around. I left. I didn't stay for the post credits. Um, you have Al what, what happens in the post credits? What does he say? What does he do?
Sonny00:39:48Well, uh, the Jason Momoa, uh, tricks him to going into a warehouse and a, he has a bunch of pictures of his dead dad. He's like Vin diesel was driving the car, but you, the rock are the guy who either dropped the bank on his head or something. I don't know. And now, and now he's gonna get revenge.
JVL00:40:07I don't know. It's a, it is, it is as if we have taken this franchise and decided that it really starts in, in fast five, which is one of the three high points of the, the whole thing, right? The first movie is tremendous. Uh, the best remake of point break ever made. Um, fast five is just an absolute delight of a movie. And then this, and so it, it, it says, we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna take this whole universe together with all the characters in it. And we're just gonna, we're just gonna do infinity war. Jason Momoa is gay Thanos and he's, you know, his character is there and he's got the plan and we've separated the groups together the way they were all separated in, in, in infinity war, and we've ended it kind of on a cliff. It's great. It's great. And I, and I'm a little nervous cuz I texted, uh, KSA and Mary Catherine and Mary Catherine hadn't seen it yet. And my sense was that Kristen did not like it. Yeah. And I'm a little hurt and worried about that.
Sonny00:41:17Uh, like I just don't know not to like it cuz it's bad.
JVL00:41:20I don't know how you could not enjoy yourself at this move. I mean, John Cena. Has a car with cannons on it, and he uses those cannons to point downward and, and fires that the car can jump like a frog or a cricket, the, the, how do they get around the, the insane thing? The, the, then we just have Alan Richson, who is the, the bad guy in this, uh, one of the bad guys in it. He has a line about how, you know, if it defies the laws of God or in gravity, they've done
Mike00:41:55it twice as if we'll see now that we've, now that we've acknowledged that what they do defies the laws of God and gravity.
JVL00:42:02We can just keep doing it. Yup. I love that. The joie de vivre of that. Fantastic. Let's just have, let's just keep going. It's delicious. I don't know. This is, look, this is, this is mission impossible. This is a mission impossible series for, for 20 year old idiots with red solo cups. And if you can't just enjoy that, then I don't, I don't know how to help you.
Sonny00:42:23Well, I think, I think when number seven came out, I described it as mission impossible, or I described it as James Bond for the Ryan Lochte set. Remember Ryan Lochte? Yes. That's what, and that's what these movies are. They're, they're, they're James Bond movies for idiots.
JVL00:42:36Yes. But when they're, when they're done well, they're fun and this is done well.
Mike00:42:41But this was not done well. Here's okay. So a couple of things about my viewing experience. So you know, the scene after the, after the prologue where he's where, where Vin Diesel is like. Go nuts with his son. Yeah.
JVL00:42:57His seven year old son who drives a Dodge charger.
Mike00:43:00Exactly. Sure. And then like stops and then he like gets out of the, or he like looks into the car at the sun and Vin Diesel's like face like scrunches up and it's, I think it's supposed to be like, he's like looking at his son and be like, this is what life is about. You know, it's about fam, all this stuff, but it's his, his eyes like basically close and he just looks like he's asleep. He just looks like an old man who's asleep at the very beginning of this movie. And like, I don't know that like inspired me because I almost fell asleep like three times watching this movie. Really? Even how loud it was. Well, that's what kept, that's what kept waking me up, but it was, I was so bored. So like it was, there's something about the level of ridiculous plus what Sonny was talking about, which is that it looks bad. That completely took me out. Like the, the, the big scene of the beginning in Rome with the big ball.
JVL00:43:59That's rolling through a Rome and then DH 77 neutron bomb. Right? Exactly. Taj Taj knew that the minute he saw it, that's what bombs look like. Bombs are all gigantic spheres.
Sonny00:44:13It's the dark night rises. He should have just said he should have just called it the dark night rises bomb.
Mike00:44:18It looks like the bomb from dark night rises. So when it's rolling through like everything. So I'm already laughing. And like rolling my eyes at this thing. And then I, I look, I guess I'm just not the target audience for this movie because when Vin Diesel is racing to catch the bomb before it rolls across the Tiber river into the Vatican and blows up Catholicism, uh, and, uh, which is really the ultimate family, if you think
Sonny00:44:43about it, um, then that's what I, yeah, I mean, it's a, it's an assault on it's assault on the family.
Mike00:44:49That family. Exactly. Yeah. This, oh, this movie contains levels, contains levels. It's when he like, he gets this, it's like he gets the split second idea. Oh, I know what I'll do. I know what I'll do. I'll take this car off of the bridge that I'm driving on, hit the crane, it just the right spot. So that the cranes things means that that's, that's how inertia works around and he hits the ball mechanics. My car will now land on the little key going along the Tiber on the other side. It's brilliant. Isn't it? I was just like, I'm done with this movie. This is so stupid. And I couldn't, I, this, everything about that, the scene where jumped cars out of one
JVL00:45:36skyscraper in Dubai onto another, like in a movie, in a movie I didn't see in a movie.
Mike00:45:42I didn't see. Okay. What happened to, what happened to street racing? Weren't these movies supposed to be about street racing? What the hell happened?
Sonny00:45:49You say that JBL, like, because we accepted that we're supposed to accept this. I accepted that. I never accepted any of this.
JVL00:45:56I'm sorry. I saw this movie in this man shoots webs out of his fingers and can climb up walls. And that's preposterous. Like no, like I'm, if you're at a Spider-Man movie, then you have decided to go along with Spider-Man physics. And if you are at fast and furious, you have decided that a car can drive down the face
Sonny00:46:14of a dam, but, but, but, but that is not, that is not the world in which these movies are set. I, these movies are set in a world. The world where street racers steal DVD players. That's where these, that's where these movies are exactly just, they can't just switch physical universes halfway through. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
Mike00:46:35So I believe it is. So here's my question too. Here's another question. Like, so I'm supposed to, so I don't know any of these characters. I don't know.
JVL00:46:44So you've never seen, we should level set here. You have never seen a single fast and furious movie.
Mike00:46:48No, that's not true. I have seen, I saw the first three.
Sonny00:46:52Did you watch the prologue that played in the Alamo draft house before I didn't get there in time. So in the, they had a pre-roll that was literally 12 minutes long. I'll go see it again for that was just, it was just the, it was just like explaining
Mike00:47:07what had happened throughout that would have been, that would've been useful. Cause like, so like the universe, so like I sit down, I sit down and like, there's the, there's the scene where they're all drinking beers and like, there's like Rita Moreno and she is a Dom's mom, I guess. And then. Like in Helen Mirren is in it. And she just like happens to be there in Rome. And she like, that was the other thing that was crazy. So like Rome just got exploded by this bomb. And then like, I, and then he just is like standing like later that evening in a Plaza and like, and, and, and Helen Mirren finds him and she's like, she's like, good work. You know, like, it's like, what, what the hell is going on?
JVL00:47:48Three different academy award winners in this movie.
Mike00:47:52So I don't know who any of these people are. Like every, so like all of the callbacks, all the, like Michelle Rodriguez pissed off at Charlize Theron. I'm like, I don't know what that, like what, I don't know what they're pissed off about with her. It's like, none of it, none of it matters. None of it makes any sense. I hated it. It was dumb. I was bored. I wanted to fall asleep. I could not get out of that theater fast enough. I'm done.
JVL00:48:13And the Jason Momoa stuff doesn't work for you at all. You were left. You sat there stone faced as Jason Momoa. He said, I am the second coming of Chris Hemsworth.
Mike00:48:26I just thought it was, it was fine, but also dumb. Like it was also dumb. Like it was, I agree with Sonny that it was interesting and sort of unusual, but I had nothing to compare it to. So like, like it, it, I, I understand intellectually that it was like an injection of something like weird to this like kind of basic franchise, but I had no context to, you know, I had no contextualizes. I was just like, oh, like Jason Momoa was like really like this. Like you say, like, like, like Jay pod said, right. The, the rip Taylor, I'm imagining him like throwing glitter or confetti, you know? Uh, and, and the joker. So I don't know.
JVL00:49:06Didn't do anything for me. And he's, he's a little puffy and doughy, like he's, you know, he's kind of past his prime Jason. Oh yeah. Everything about that. Doesn't you just, I can't believe it. I laughed over me. I laughed all through the movie. I, I, I laughed. I cried. It was better than cats.
Mike00:49:24Well, at that standard, I mean, I mean, yeah, I guess, I guess, I guess you have something there. Um, any other thoughts on this? I mean, like, so is there, so I asked the question, I guess we've gotten to spoilers. Nobody cares here. But like the other thing I didn't quite understand was how, we haven't even talked about the
Sonny00:49:42plot of this movie. Oh, I know. I was like, well, I was expecting you.
Mike00:49:45Hold on. There's no plot. Can I attempt? Can I attempt? How can you spoil this movie? Can I attempt to give a plot? Yeah. For this movie? Yeah. Knowing nothing. So like the very beginning opens with a scene with Paul Walker and I'm like, isn't he, isn't he be dead for 10 years? Um, so was that in a previous movie or was that like, yeah, that was Paul Walker's.
Sonny00:50:06That was no, that was Paul Walker's CGI ghost. Wasn't it? Wasn't it? Didn't that we get the shot of, so that was my question into the, I guess there was a, there was a fast vibe. That's right.
Mike00:50:17Was that a scene from fast five? Was that a genuine flashback?
Sonny00:50:20I think. I think that is footage from fast five. I don't, I don't think they did more. Okay. Okay.
Mike00:50:26Cause it looked. Paul Walker ghost work. Okay. It looked like a, a, a movie, not like CGI. I like looked like it was filmed and he was real. So the plot of this is like several movies ago, they stole some money from S from some Brazilian, but he's not Brazilian, but he lives in Brazil. Some guy's a mobster and his son is Jason.
Sonny00:50:46He's great.
Mike00:50:47Yeah. And, and his, and his son is Jason Momoa. He vows to get revenge. And then we have to wait five movies before he gets his revenge. And his revenge is like, he's, I don't know, like he just like tricks Dom's crew into doing stuff and be in places. He's got a plan like the Joker. What is the plan JVL? What is the plan?
JVL00:51:13Well, he's manipulating them all and plus you can take their families apart. Piece by piece. Rip them apart. Just like, yes. So, so he shows up. He walks into Charlize Theron's characters, uh, layer where she is a computer hacker. And in her, her, her nerve center, she's surrounded by like 30 guys in full ballistic kit with the wood. Why she needs these people inside the computer nerve center with her, with their guns. Who could say, but the fact that he comes in and as you know, he, he, they, she's about to have him shot. He says, hold on, hold on. And simultaneously. Both the phones of all these guys start ringing and they pull out their iPhones and it turns out that their families have been kidnapped. And I just laughed out loud at the idea that these guys whose jobs are as Merck's for this crazy cyber criminal. And they're just, when they clock out with her, they just go back to the, they just go back to the cul-de-sac and they've got to like mow the lawn, you know, go to the PTA. You didn't laugh at that.
Mike00:52:17I thought it was ridiculous. Like what the Circle. I didn't get it. I didn't understand why I cared about any of these people. Why should I care about Charlize? They're on. I didn't even know she was in these movies. Like, so like, and then I don't, I can't even tell you what, was there a MacGuffin? Was there something that they were trying to get? I don't even remember. Maybe I fell asleep at that point, but like, but like was there was no device or anything. So it's, and then, and then like, so, okay. But the way this movie ends is they think they've escaped. They think they've, they finally escaped. He's got his son with them and they're on the dam and look at who it is. It's Jay. It's Gabe, Jason Momoa again. And he's like, ah, now I'm going to get you with my big trucks and the trucks are going to get you. And Vin Diesel has one option and one option only to drive the car down the face of the dam. And then the dam gets blown up and then the movie's over. Then it's over. It's over. So we're getting another one. We're getting a sequel.
JVL00:53:22This is like the fast 11. You know what? You're just lucky that they didn't go dusty. Like the end of, uh, the end of infinity war, because I said this like four times, this is infinity war. They looked and they were like, oh shit, we could do that in the fast and furious universe. And that's what they've done.
Mike00:53:38And it's glorious. But why? Because we need it. Why waste?
JVL00:53:43Uh, I will say this Vin Diesel's entire life for a guy who was once thought to be potentially a future action star. His entire professional life has shrunk down to voicing Groot and just managing this franchise. That's it.
Mike00:54:00Didn't do anything else anymore, which was not his franchise to start, right? Like he was in the first movie and then he wasn't in any of the movies.
Sonny00:54:09He left. He left the second one. Cause there was a contract dispute. He thought he should be getting paid more. And this was also around the time that pitch black came out. He was like, pitch black was not a huge hit, but. And was like, was, was gonna, was, was like on the way to becoming its own franchise in triple X. So he was like, he was like, yeah, he was in triple X and he was like, I need to be, I need to be paid $20 million for this. And they were like, we're not gonna pay you $20 million for it. And he was like, fine. See you later. I'll be back in number four when I, when everything else I'm doing, because number three was
Mike00:54:39like, was just a, like, they just slapped fast and furious on, on the poster essentially. Like it has no actual Tokyo drift.
Sonny00:54:48I mean, it's about cars, whatever.
Mike00:54:51It's like, it's closer to the spirit of the first one than this piece of crap.
JVL00:54:54It's like a one shot. This is the, it's like a standalone, you know, the episode I, I'm sorry, Vin was right though. Like the, the franchise is him. Right. I mean, the Dom Dom is a fabulous character and he's great in it and that rumbly voice of his works. And we get the, the Corona name checks, which we all, we all need to see them drinking Coronas once in the movie. It's uh, what I think is fascinating. What I think is fascinating is, is how, uh, how Tyrese Gibson and, uh, helping ludicrous and ludicrous, how they became integral parts of this because those guys are just sort of bolted on. Well, too, too fast. Too furious.
Sonny00:55:36Cause yeah, they were in too fast.
Mike00:55:37Yeah. And Luda had the song right. Too fast. Too furious.
JVL00:55:41But it's, it is funny to me that they, they wound up as, as part of this, uh, this movable feast. And now with everybody else, with Helen Mirren, with Jason Momoa, with Charlize Theron, with,
Sonny00:55:53uh, I will say the one thing, the one thing I did kind of like about this movie is the way it makes fun of the fact that the whole series has this anime structure to it, where like the villains become the like sidekicks for the next season, Jason Statham at the, at the end of this one, at the end of this one, Jason Momoa was like, you think everybody's just gonna be on your side all the time. Turns out, no, see, that's not, that's not what happened.
Mike00:56:16It's great. Can I say, can I say another one that Gal Gadot, it's like come like pokes out of the five. Oh, okay. It's like, I have no idea. But like, I'm just like, it reveals her. I'm like, what the hell is she? It reminded me of Shazam fury of the gods. It's like, what, what did she like? Cause she definitely was not in a room with anybody.
Sonny00:56:35Her whole career now is just like the only one who's been erased is another.
JVL00:56:38The only one who's been erased is Rhonda Rousey, right? Rhonda Rousey was in one of these fast and furious movies and she didn't come back. Oh, she was. Yeah. And they figured out how to, uh, They figured out how to, to use John Cena cause John Cena was terrible when they tried to make him as the villain. But once you let him be goofy peacemaker, John Cena, then everything's fine. Yeah. Goofy.
Sonny00:57:02John Cena is great. Well, but he had to be the villain so he could become the side. Right?
Mike00:57:06Well, I mean, that's how you, well, he was a villain, even though he's the brother, you know, don't, don't, don't even answer. Don't even answer. I can't believe I asked that. All right. Do we have any other thoughts? Any other thoughts on fast 10?
JVL00:57:18No, but I got something I gotta say, say it JBL happy birthday to Tanya, friend of the show. All right. Happy birthday.
Sonny00:57:27Happy birthday.
JVL00:57:28One of the OG. Tanya's been with us since like episode one, uh, has been a guest at my home as a friend of my family's. You guys all know Tanya. It was well, um, I'm sure you met her at my house. We had our big thing. Michael. Um, Sonny. Yeah. Yeah.
Mike00:57:42She's a, she's great. So happy birthday, Tanya. Happy birthday, Tanya. Sorry.
?00:57:46The movie we discussed on your birthday episode sucked. Wow.
Sonny00:57:48All right. All right.

JVL00:58:12Boy, I had something and now I've forgotten it.
Mike00:58:15Um, so I can just mention that, uh, we are going out of town this weekend, just, just me, the wife and the baby. We are leaving the two older ones alone. Um, sure. They'll fend for themselves. Um, there's, there's some food. They're gonna have a kegger, right?
JVL00:58:34They're gonna have one of those revenge of the nerd style parties.
Mike00:58:38Exactly. No, no. They're, uh, uh, friends of the shows. The McCormick's who are my oldest son's godparents will be there for just tonight. Cause we have to go, we have to drive up to Philadelphia for a family wedding. So, but we're taking the baby. Um, so it should be interesting. It's a little preview of what we're gonna have this summer, which is two straight weeks without the older kids.
Guest00:58:58Oh, yeah.
Mike00:58:59Are you shipping them off to the grandparents? Shipping them off to the grandparents. So yeah, it's gonna be, it's gonna be great. We'll just have a baby. Just a baby. Isn't that amazing? I'm sure it's fine. That sounds awful.
