Guest00:00:00They were down somewhere in the Jolo Island Cluster. It's run by separatists and militias. The Filipino army won't even go there anymore. The clock is ticking, every minute matters. We can count those minutes in lives, lost or saved. Listen carefully, this is an emergency. I'm Captain Brody Torrance.
?00:00:30Ah!
Guest00:00:35I like this guy.
Sonny00:00:45Welcome back to the Sub-Beacon. I'm Sonny Bunch. And I am very pleased to be joined today by Christopher Haberman and Ryan Kinney because we don't have any JVL today. No JVL. He is gallivanting about the West Coast. He is... Swooning. Shaking hands. Kissing babies. Shaking hands. He's going to the beach, I would assume. I don't know. Whatever JVL does out there. So he is out. We've got Ryan and Christopher from the SSEU podcast here joining us today. Thank you for being on the show, gentlemen. Thank you for having us. Introduce ourselves. Like individually or...
Guest00:01:28No, I just... At the same time...
Sonny00:01:30Christopher, say hello so people can recognize your voice.
Guest00:01:34Hello, this is my voice and it does not sound at all like Ryan's. Ryan, can we do just like a high five? A virtual high five because we have done it.
Sonny00:01:47We have. You just screwed yourself. Sonny, you walked right into it. It's a hostile takeover. Based on podcast law... It's your show now. You're outvoted. All right. That's great. Honestly, I'm just glad I can sit back and not do anything else for the rest of the show. Christopher, your show. Take over.
Guest00:02:07Ryan, tell them about the poison pill. Okay. You see this pill right here? Well, we can't. You don't have video. I have a pill and it's poison and I'm going to swallow it if you don't agree with us.
Sonny00:02:21I told you we needed to rehearse this. It doesn't matter. We've got a plan. You're not going to see me. I'm going to take this poison pill. And if you don't agree, he already agreed. I told you. If we don't tell him, he's just going to say, fine, good luck. Ryan, Ryan, listen. Listen, I hacked it. I'm not going to stop you from committing suicide. That's not my job. I don't. That's not what I do. Okay.
Guest00:02:46Well, we have other means of doing this. Ryan, I hacked into the recording software. It's only you and me now. Sonny can't hear us. Ryan. Okay. I thought you said you listened to the audible book on hostile takeovers.
Sonny00:03:03I did it. It was the takeover miles high club though. Apparently it's an erotic thriller, but TL Swan. So that's not going to be very helpful. It's about pegging because the mile high club is about sex and apparently the miles high club is pegging and the guy doesn't want to do it, but she does a hostile takeover in the end. It was the second book in the series. I had to listen.
Guest00:03:32Okay. Okay. Okay. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. Does that help at all? All right. Let's bring Sonny back in here. Okay. Okay. Ryan, you said you hired a lawyer to done deal. Yeah.
Sonny00:03:43Yeah. He said this is straightforward podcast law. He was a really good lawyer. He's one of the- Question. Question. Question. Is this also, is this lawyer and also an expert in bird law? I- Did Charlie- I didn't get a chance to talk to him about that, but it seemed like he was, but I haven't, he didn't, I checked the mail right before I came here, Chris, I went outside and I checked the mail and he didn't, I sent him the money, but he didn't send me the instructions because he communicates exclusively through postcard. And so I haven't got the- Through postcard. So you've been- How did you send money via postcard? Oh no, I met him and I gave him money and then he said that he was going to send me, he said, he said, he's a, he said only an idiot would communicate anything electronic. I'm going to send you a postcard with all the-
Guest00:04:37Did, okay, did, this is sounding a little bit like you're a crook, Captain Hook.
Sonny00:04:45You think we should apologize?
Guest00:04:46Is this maritime law that we're talking here or-
Sonny00:04:52That's just mutiny. You're just talking about mutiny. Let's do the Pac-Man defense. There's no, there's no democracy on the show.
Guest00:04:56Chris, do the Pac-Man- The Pac-Man defense.
Sonny00:04:58Pac-Man defense. Do, do, do Michael Burry, Chris. Do Michael Burry, where it looks like you only have one eye. Christian Bale, do Christian Bale's Michael Burry. That's going to get us this.
Guest00:05:09I don't know, Ryan. I, I feel-
Sonny00:05:11No, it looks like, it doesn't look like a glass eye at all.
Guest00:05:13I, I feel like this was a mistake. I feel like, you were supposed to do the research.
Sonny00:05:18I had a big day though. You had a big day, okay. So- Can we talk about your big day or are we not allowed to talk about your big day?
?00:05:28Oh, sure, sure.
Sonny00:05:29We could. I don't think we can give a shit, but yeah, I don't know. Hey, it's a big day.
Guest00:05:35Ryan, what happened today? Where are you coming from?
Sonny00:05:38Just a, a meeting, I guess it was an interview. I had, I got, I had applied to this, for this job that I wanted a couple of months ago and I only applied cause I really, it's, it was, I really wanted it and I didn't hear anything. And then just out of the blue today, I got the tech, got a text from the guy. Uh, owns the company and just asked if I was still interested. We talked on the phone, uh, for a little while this morning and he just, he was, it went really well and he just said, Hey, um, I'm going to be leaving a, do you have time to meet me tonight? And went out to a little, little place I've never been called the brass knob. Um, you know, I don't, I don't know what we, or no, this sounds like a bit, like it all
Guest00:06:25sounds made up. The thing is, I know it's not. I've congratulations. No, no.
Sonny00:06:30The funny, the funny thing is you were, you were emailing us, you were like, Hey, can we wait like 30? Can we push like the show back about 30 minutes? Cause I got a job interview in a secret park somewhere. That's definitely not going to, that was just when I showed up. It's not going to end with me being like duct taped and put onto a private aircraft and taken to like some South American, uh, you know, uh, hostile movie, uh, set. Well, I, I assume all of that did happen. Uh, uh, but just, uh, a much, uh, much quicker version of that. Um, cause I, there's, there's part of the night that I, I have no memory of.
Guest00:07:09Okay. But congratulations. Like this, this is incredible. Uh, you know, back when you talked to him for the first time, he was just like, yeah, we're interested in you. But like, uh, you were like, yeah, I gotta wait until March.
Sonny00:07:23And he was just like, well, we might fill the job compete that I was, uh, that I was still waiting out. And I didn't think they were going to want to wait and initially they didn't. Um, but, uh, I guess things have happened for them that changed it for me as well.
Guest00:07:39Yeah. So this is great. This is great. So you're having a great night, eh, Sonny, what's going on in your world?
Sonny00:07:46Uh, not a whole lot. Um, uh, in my world, I, uh, I, I beat, uh, God of War Ragnarok. I mentioned that on the show a couple of weeks ago, I have, I finished the main, the main game there. It took me like 40 hours, which is probably like 15 hours too many, but I don't play very many video games. Uh, fun game. Now is that one of these obstacle courses? Highly recommend, highly recommend, uh, people play God of War Ragnarok and also, uh, is
Guest00:08:13Jeff Goldblum in, in the video game as well?
Sonny00:08:16No, that's a different, that's a different, this is a, well, although in this one in God of War Ragnarok, uh, Kratos, the Spartan, uh, warrior who becomes, uh. Becomes the God of War in the original God of War series, uh, has to fight Thor. It's the end of the movie or the end of the game. He basically fights Thor and this is not like hot Chris Hemsworth Thor. He's like a big fat redhead Thor. Um, he's kind of gross.
Guest00:08:42So fat Thor from end game.
Sonny00:08:45It's, it's, it's kind of like the Thor from end game, but grosser. Like much, much. Thomas is really into, uh, console gaming, uh, do you, was this a, is this a community game? No, I actually don't think I mentioned it to him. I don't, I don't think it came up. Uh, because I was probably playing it muddling through PS5. Is that your console? I play, I have a PS5, PS5 Thomas Thomas Thomas. Yeah. Yep. It's a good, it's a good system. I, I mean, I, I swear I play like literally a game and a half a year. I, I don't, I don't really, if there are people who were like desperate for a PlayStation five and I just like lucked into one, uh, through, you know, like randomly, randomly buying, like randomly clicking buy now on.
Guest00:09:27Again, just to piss them off.
Sonny00:09:29So I, yeah, I mean, there were, I mean, I got, I mean, I got, I literally got it like two years ago. Uh, and back when like nobody could get it just again, like totally like, I'm just like, I'm going to try and get one. I just saw it go on sale on a target or whatever. Uh, you got it online or you were like, no, just online. It wasn't, it wasn't targeted. It was actually a game spot. It was game spot, um, uh, or GameStop, uh, and, and I like, I, I, I just like clicked on it. I was like, oh, I'm out. Try and get it now. And I like went through right away. I was like, Hey, PlayStation five for me. All right. I know that at some point I got into one of those queues because we were thinking about getting one for the boys that when they came out and you had to like join the queue and then I can't remember, but it, there was no chance I looked at the number ahead of me and there was no chance I was ever going to get it. So I don't, I, again, I like totally, I don't know if I glitched in or whatever. Um, but, uh, it was, uh, it was.
Guest00:10:27To be clear to everyone who's still waiting to get theirs, Sonny has one and he doesn't even want.
Sonny00:10:33I have, I have one and I barely use it. I mostly, I literally, I literally mostly, uh, one of the reasons I wanted to get it was because, because I wanted to get it, I wanted a 4k UHD player and, uh, I didn't want to buy a 4k UHD player and then buy a video game system. I wanted to get the disc PS five and then after like literally, I dunno, six months of watching movies on it, I was like, because the weird thing about the PS five is that the disc worse constantly and it is incredibly loud. It isn't, it's amazingly loud. So I ended up just buying a 4k Blu ray player in addition. So I just like had it for, for, I mean, again, I play, I think I've played, let's say I did the war crimes for Reagan game, uh, resident evil village. What now? What's that? Reagan? Yeah. The call of duty. The call of duty. The call of duty is like, you got to go. I ran and kill these guys like they did.
Guest00:11:32They did what top gun refused to do, like identify the enemy. You know, they didn't, they didn't puss out on that.
Sonny00:11:39So, uh, uh, I, I played that. I played, um, uh, resident evil village. Uh, I played both of the God of war games, though only the, the second one is actually a PS five game. The, the first one's a PS four, um, but it's like, I don't know, it's like upgraded a little bit. I want to play the last of us, I want to play the last of us, the, the like remastered PS five one, but I'm not paying $70 for like a, a 10 year old remastered game. I'm going to wait until that comes down in price after the, after the season on HBO is over. So for the show, they just rereleased the, the old game. They didn't, uh, well, they, I mean, my understanding is that they like, uh, they did a whole lot of remastering and upgrading the it's in, it's in, uh, I don't know. It's funny. I, again, on, on, on the internet, someone was like, look at these, the graphics on the new PS five last of us game compared to the PS four. And I was like looking at it and it was literally like, yeah, I was like, this is the same picture. I was like, this is the same picture. And then all the, all the, all the video game nerds were like, stay in your lane movie, man. You don't know what you're talking about. And I was just like, I don't know, man, I, I play some games. I'm just saying that these do not look substantially different. They look like the same image. One's a little, there's a little more shade, uh, I guess. I don't know. And they were so pissed off. They were like, I can't believe you would denigrate the amazingness of the PS five. And I'm like, look, I got one. It's fine. I don't know.
Guest00:13:15I don't know what to tell you. Ain't no fury. Like a score nerd. They're the worst.
Sonny00:13:19They're the worst. I can't tell what's going on. I have you guys followed what's going on with dungeons and dragons at all? Apparently like the nerds are all mad about. The movie. Dungeons and Dragons. Chris Pine movie. No, no. Oh, well, I'm sure they're mad about that too. But like something about the like rights, he's not a nerd.
Guest00:13:36I don't know. He's not a fucking nerd.
Sonny00:13:38He's way too good looking to play. He's a, he's the, he's the ludest. So I, aren't those guys supposed to be the handsome and charming? I don't know. I, I, I don't know. Everything.
Guest00:13:50I don't know anything. I've never.
Sonny00:13:52Dungeons and Dragons. I learned from community. So when I was in, when I was, uh, when I was like 10 or 11. A friend of mine got Dungeons and Dragons, uh, and we were like really excited to play it cause we thought it was a board game. So he like opened it up and like started unfolding things and like had a piece of paper and was reading off it. And I was just like, what the fuck is happening? Why are, why am I not moving pieces around the board and buying properties? How many places do I move? Where's, where's, where's my checker to jump your play? I was like, I just don't. I was like, I don't understand this at all. I'm not, I'm not.
Guest00:14:29He's like, no, let me paint you a picture.
Sonny00:14:31It's like, yeah, I was, you walk into a clearing, but no, but the, the best part was that my friend had no idea either. He like, again, had thought it was just like, just like a regular board game. So he's like, he's like, like very confusedly, like reading the instructions of what to do. And he's like, I have to do a story and the, the board's not really a board. It's just kind of what, what is happening here? And so we turned it off and watched Goonie. We stopped playing, we stopped playing Dungeons and Dragons and just watched Goonies instead. It was, Hey, there's a, there's a market right there. Dungeons and Dragons, Dungeons and Dragons, the board game. Yeah. Ryan, can you sit closer to your mic or something? You're very quiet. I don't mind. How's that? Is that any better? A little better. Uh, all right. Uh, I don't know. What else, what else is going on? Uh, Christopher, what's going on in your, in your world? Literally nothing. Nothing at all.
Guest00:15:26Nothing. So JVL has been talking a lot about, uh, coaching basketball. I, I trust you're done coaching soccer. Yeah. Not, never doing that again. I'll tell you that, I'll tell you that much. Until, until baseball season in one month. Not doing that either. Not doing that. But it didn't seem like it was voluntary last time. So who's to say that won't happen again?
Sonny00:15:48Uh, well, if my son had any interest in playing baseball, it might be an issue, but I don't think that's going to be a problem. He does not. He does not seem super into, uh, baseball. Uh, he likes to play with cars and trucks. That's what he enjoys. So if we can get him in a, in a go-kart league or something that might be, that might work. But so you just have to show up to camp a few times. No coaching. I'm not, I don't know. I'm not either. He's going to find somebody else to coach him cause that's not, that's not something I'm doing again. Tell you that much.
Guest00:16:17Okay. So, uh, I want to, what's going on with me. I went to a movie yesterday at 10:45 AM. It was very strange. Sonny. I wanted to pull back the curtain and just ask you a little bit like, um, I asked you earlier off air about, um, when it is that you see movies, um, what percent of movies do you see just on your own and what percent are at like critic screenings? Uh, like what does that like for you? It was very strange for me going to a 10 45 showing 10, eight, 10 45 AM.
Sonny00:16:48Man, I, I would murder, I would murder for regular 10 45 AM screenings around me. So, uh, I, I go. Oh, almost exclusively. I go as much as I can to the draft house that is like five minutes from my house because I have draft houses season pass thing. It's their version of a list or whatever. So like I, if I can go to the draft house, that's five minutes from my house, I go there because it's essentially free. Um, except like they have a bullshit like $1 83 service charge or something very annoying. Um, but whatever. I still prefer to go there then to go to AMC or whatever, because the it's nicer theater, better patrons, whatever. Um, but the, uh, but most of the time, well, it depends. So I, I'll go to like press screening sometimes. Um, and press screenings are usually at 7:00 PM on a Monday or a Tuesday or a Wednesday. Um, uh, and I go to those by myself, um, because I like the, you know, whatever, because you
Guest00:17:47actually, I go, I go, I go to almost across the movie aisle crew. So you don't have your critics that you used to get together with.
Sonny00:17:55Yeah. So, I mean, once upon a time when I lived in DC, there were people I would go to press screenings with, um, and, you know, uh, but not, not anymore. Uh, you, I, I go to, I go, I go to theaters almost exclusively by myself. I do not, uh, I do not often go to a theater with somebody else. There's a, I had a friend here who I'd worked with at my last job who, uh, moved down to Austin like a year ago. Uh. And I would, I used to go to movies with him, but he, but obviously that doesn't happen anymore. So I would say that like I go to 95% of the movies I go to now I go to by myself, which is amazing. Going to the movies by yourself is the, the best present you can give yourself because you can sit wherever you want and I have to worry about like talking to people, just sit there and watch the, the pre-roll and all that, which is great. Um.
Guest00:18:48And if you could get a daytime showing you, you do, but.
Sonny00:18:51So, so the only problem, so the, the biggest problem with the, the draft house near me, uh, or frankly, all the draft houses in Dallas, in the Dallas area is they don't do many, uh, uh, during the week, they don't do a ton of pre like 3:00 PM shows. 3:00 PM is usually when everything starts playing.
Guest00:19:10So like it's got the, because of the like dine in concept where they're paying people to do wait staff and, and to do drinks and stuff where my, my Cinemark, it's just like, they're just running those like every half hour. Exactly. They're doing screens. So it doesn't cost them anything to have one nerd at the ticket counter. Okay.
Sonny00:19:30Right. Got it. So if I, if I, the, the Angelica, like the Angelica that's 15 minutes away, that usually has show times that start around 11:30 or whatever, and it just runs all day. But like there's, there's usually like two people at those screenings. I saw tar, I saw tar at, uh, the Angelica at, on like a Tuesday at 11:00 AM or something like that. And there was lit, it was literally me and one other person in the theater. Um, you know, and that's how all. All the screenings are then that doesn't work for a draft house. I don't think as a business proposition, because they have to pay, they have to pay not only, you know, all like the, the normal people who work there, but also like they have to pay somebody to just staff, run the bar, they gotta pay, you know, people in the kitchen, making food. They gotta pay, uh, you know, servers in each of the, um. Where most of the time when I go to a movie, I, there are maybe three. They gotta pay someone to cut up, cut up those pieces of paper, those rectangles. Right. The what? They gotta pay someone to cut up those pieces of paper into rectangles. Yeah. What pieces of paper? I don't know. What are you? I don't get it. Tickets. Will you put your, will you write your, you write your order on a draft house. Oh, right, right. Yeah. I thought you were saying tickets. We, uh, you don't have a, you don't have a movie house and eatery in Dallas? A what? Because a movie house and eatery. Here. I'm gonna Bing it. I don't know. Movie house and eatery. I don't know what that is. Oh. I mean, it's like, it sounds like a draft house. That's what a draft house is. Well, it's so much better though. I mean, in Austin, we. We will always choose movie house over draft house here. I, I don't know. Yeah. I've found some of the, uh, draft houses here in Austin is, I don't know, it can be annoying in what, in what sense they're not as new. They're old. Yeah. And so that, that that's part of it is that movie house is brand new with like comfortable recliners. Yeah. And one of the downtown draft houses, I'm sitting in a chair with like Springs coming out of it. Well, that's, that's another nice thing about the draft house. It's five minutes from me. It's like two years old. So it's got all the nice new refiners and it's, uh, compared to say the draft house. So there's a draft house that's like 20 minutes from my house, um, which is I think one of the first draft houses in, in Dallas. And it's, it's just, it's just old. The seats are like kind of worn out. The, the projector bulbs are not as nice or bright, uh, whatever, um, popcorn grease on them. Yeah. But the, uh, but yeah, so, so anyway, my, we were, we were talking about this. I saw, I saw the movie that we're talking about today plane, uh, at like, uh, it started at nine 40, um, on Tuesday night, uh, got home at like midnight, which is always fun. Those are always fun, fun nights. Um, and that is, that is how I wind up seeing a lot of movies. I usually go to at least one or two movies a week like that. Um, just like rolling out at nine o'clock or later getting home around midnight. Um, catching up on, on everything. Again, this is one of the nice things about having the season pass makes it more convenient, uh, or at least makes it cheaper, but it makes, it does make, it is actually less convenient in, in very real ways.
Guest00:22:39I mean, provided your wife is patient enough to take responsibility the next morning of getting the kids ready and out the door.
Sonny00:22:45No, I get up, I get up and I get up with the kids, I get them all packed up and ready to go. I mean, it's, you know, it's, I get my, I get my six hours of sleep or whatever. That's all you need. That's all you need. So, uh. Chris has to have his 10, no matter what's going on.
Guest00:22:59I have to have my 13 hours of sleep. I'm a thousand years old.
Sonny00:23:02Uh, hold on just a second. So, I just realized that the, the noise canceling thing was a, uh, was a setting on, on the stupid, uh, in the settings thing. And I just turned it off. Which we would have told you if you hadn't walked away. Did that change? Yeah, you walked away from, you walked away from the computer and you take your headphones off. I was like, where is he going? I don't understand why he's changing his headphones. It's a button on the computer. Don't change it now. Don't change it now. It'll fuck everything up. Don't, don't change it now. Ryan, did we lose it? So yeah, that's, that's, uh, yeah, right. Great. Um, okay. I understand what you're saying. I definitely didn't already click and turn it off.
Guest00:23:42Sonny, I have one more question for you involving movies. Uh, my wife took my daughter to a Frozen singalong, uh, on Saturday at. At, um, uh, at the state theater downtown. Uh, is this a thing as it, as a Sonny super dad, um, that you would do, would you take your kids to a singalong? Okay. Specifically a Frozen singalong.
Sonny00:24:11Um, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it. Exactly.
Guest00:24:20Uh, how about a greatest showman singalong?
Sonny00:24:24I've never actually, I have still never seen greatest showman. I, I, it does. I, I don't like musicals as you know, so I'm, I have no interest in it.
Guest00:24:34Yeah.
Sonny00:24:35Okay. I mean, I wouldn't go to a singalong because I wouldn't know any, like neither I nor my kids would know any of the lyrics. It wouldn't make any sense. I would, I would do an Encanto singalong. That would be a, that would be a fun singalong event or a nightmare before Christmas singalong. My, my four year old son loves. The nightmare before Christmas, the nightmare before Christmas. I don't, I don't understand. Like I'm glad because I liked that movie a lot too, but it, like he, uh, he demanded to watch it the other weekend on movie night, he was like, I did not watch nightmare before Christmas.
Guest00:25:07Like I did not know until last week that Tim Burton did not direct that movie.
Sonny00:25:11Yeah. It's a common misconception because it's called the nightmare before Christmas, but he, he, he designed the characters and like did the drawings and like, and produced it and wrote it, et cetera, et cetera. But he, uh, he did not direct it. The director was Henry Selleck.
Guest00:25:27Yeah.
Sonny00:25:28Yeah. Who, uh, also directed monkey bone. Do you remember monkey bone, the Chris Catan, Brendan Fraser movie? I don't think I ever saw it, but I remember, I do remember it, but, uh, yeah, I remember the trailers.
Guest00:25:42You guys never saw monkey bone? Saw Night at the Roxbury in the theater with Chris Catan, but I did not see monkey bone.
Sonny00:25:50Monkey bone. So monkey bone stars, uh, Brendan Fraser as a cartoon. A cartoonist who I can't remember exactly what the pre whale sighting incident is. Yeah. Pre whale. He is like, he's like, uh, he's in his mummy fighting trim, um, in this movie. Uh, but he's a cartoonist whose character, um, I don't, he like dies and he meets his character in hell and the character comes back to life in the body of, uh, Chris Catan who has like a broken neck or something. Yeah. It's bizarre. It is Frank. It is frankly a bizarre movie. Um, but Bridget Fonda does play a sexy cat in it. So uh, there's that. What does that mean? She plays a sexy cat, like sexy cat. She plays a, she plays a cat lady, a sexy cat with, I don't know, with a lady or a cat like an actual cat. I would assume she has one. I don't know. I mean, this isn't, this isn't the movie cats with the butthole cut, but that's what, okay.
Guest00:26:58What, where did the movie cats land on that? Which was the butthole cut where they had buttholes or they took away buttholes?
Sonny00:27:06No, they took away buttholes.
Guest00:27:09And was that too?
Sonny00:27:12My understanding is that they did, they, the, in, they shot the whole movie and the cats had like photo realistic cat anuses, uh, on the character. And, and how much time did somebody like, and the producers and the producers and the director saw it and were like, why are there cat assholes all over this movie? Uh, so somebody, so somebody, uh, so somebody had to like go in there and digitally erase all of them one by one on the screen. This is why the VFX industry had gone in and digitally inserted them. I assume they weren't part of the costume. I don't know.
Guest00:27:50So I just listened to you and on across the movie. I was talking about just the overworked, um, but the reality isn't that the VFX houses are overworked. It's that they're traumatized by like staring at cat anuses for, for months and months. First, first inserting them and then taking them away.
Sonny00:28:08I actually, it was funny. I had an idea for, for, uh, either, I don't know, a movie or a short story or something where a, uh, there was literally just inspired by this, but it was like, uh, the, the Prey C is a FX artist. It is called into the office to remove thousands of buttholes from, from, from a movie and, uh, and his, his, uh, like Google buddy comes over and he's like, Hey man, we're going to, we're going to the, we're going to St. Bart's. You got to come with us. We're going on the private jet right now. He's like, I can't, I can't, I got to erase all these, I got to erase all these buttholes. And the Google guy is like, don't worry, I got an AI program and it's going to erase all the buttholes for you. You don't have to worry about it. It's going to erase all the buttholes in this movie. And then, so he's like, fine, let's do it. Let's go. So he goes off to St. Bart's and while he's away, the AI gains sentience and decides to erase all the buttholes in all of the world, uh, which is what inspires the terminator robot uprising where the robots, the T-1000 is just going house to house erasing, manually erasing people's buttholes. Now I, I will be honest, I don't know that this is a commercial project, uh, that anybody would be able to make, but it was very important.
Guest00:29:22The butthole guy, there's that, I mean, if it, if it makes it big, like Sonny Bunch, the butthole guy.
Sonny00:29:28I mean, I feel like that's, I feel like this is a billion dollar idea. Like you, you get Ryan Reynolds as like the butthole erasing AI, could you imagine how smarmy he would be just taking out buttholes one after the other?
Guest00:29:43Showing up at house with his smirk and you know, someone's like begging for their life and yeah, I, I could picture it. Yeah.
Sonny00:29:50I think it would be, I, again, I think it's a billion. Yeah. Or, or maybe, maybe it'll be on Netflix. It's a billion hour idea. It's a billion hour idea, not a billion dollar idea, but uh, you know, whatever.
Guest00:29:59Well, speaking of buttholes, I want to go back just, just a little bit, um, to my kids. Um, so we're talking about Tim Burton reminded me, my kids are absolutely loving Netflix's Wednesday. Oh really? Oh yeah. Like they're watching it the third time. Oh my gosh. My kids are 12 and nine. Okay. Ryan, your kids are a big hit.
Sonny00:30:22She loves it. She loves it.
Guest00:30:24She loves it. Well, Piper it's, it's rated TV 14 and so yeah, your four year olds loving it.
Sonny00:30:28Yeah. I don't know. Rose watched it with her. I, I haven't seen it. I wasn't even aware of it. I was busy. I just know that, uh, she sings all the songs from it all the time now. Are there a lot of songs in it? But yeah, so it's got, um, oh, you're saying maybe she's written and, uh, composed her own songs. That's what I'm saying.
Guest00:30:49It is, uh, Louis Guzman. It's got, um, Catherine Zeta-Jones. As the parents, um, like the headmaster at the school is, is, uh, Gwendolyn Christie. Um, and then some, yeah, teeny bopper is Wednesday. It's like, we're gonna whole generation of goth kids inspired by Wednesday Adams and her like moodiness. That's seven.
Sonny00:31:11I feel like that's an evergreen goth inspiration though. I feel like Wednesday Adams has been inspiring goths for like 50 years now since the original Adams family. To Christina Ricci, she'll always be Wednesday to me. None of this.
Guest00:31:30Yes. She's, she's in it, but I don't know what part she plays. I saw in, in the Wikipedia thing that Ryan, do you know what she plays?
Sonny00:31:37She haven't watched it either.
Guest00:31:39Uh, it's been on in the background as yeah, I don't, I haven't watched it.
Sonny00:31:44I, yeah, I, I usually have my headphones in anytime my family's around, um, trying, it's an enormous hit though. It's an enormous hit. Like, like it is just blowing up for, for Netflix. It's crazy. What, like what hits and what somebody is making, just banking all those hours or minutes. Is it minutes or hours that they're tracking? I think it's hours watched hours, 500 million hours, when 1.3 billion hours watched, I don't even know. Ryan, if I still don't, I still don't understand the economics of that, that whole place and none of it makes any sense. I think you had the, I think it pretty sure it was you. It had the best explanation of what it possibly means is just like, you know, hopefully this many people don't cancel or whatever. Well, that's yeah, that's worth or because of this thing, they wait however much longer to cancel than they would have. They would have canceled sooner. And so, so they're kind of shot like if we save this much money as like, I don't know. Yeah.
Guest00:32:47I mean, if you're seeing the Addams Family animated films.
Sonny00:32:52Yeah. Yeah. They like those.
Guest00:32:55They like those too.
Sonny00:32:56Sonny, have you seen them? I know Rhett. I mean, Rhett is a little bit older now, but he liked it when he was younger. And Piper likes that one as well. I saw the first one. That's the one that where Gomez is voiced by Oscar Isaac, right?
?00:33:08Maybe.
Sonny00:33:09Am I am I making that up? I feel like I watched the first one of those I but I did not. There was a sequel that came out. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not doing it right now. I don't know. We're not talking about we're not talking about Adam's family this week, though. We're talking about plane. Excellent transition. Thank you. Transition. We're talking about plane, which stars Gerard Butler, king of the Dirtbag Bee movie. And Christopher, you were telling me that you have literally this is only the second Gerard Butler movie you've ever seen.
Guest00:33:45It's true.
Sonny00:33:46It's one of these being the other you did of these being the other, which he was forced to watch by me. So I want to hold on. I want to. I'm forced. Gerard Butler.
Guest00:33:58I am.
?00:33:59Um.
Sonny00:34:00Well, you've never seen Gladiator or not Gladiator or three hundred three hundred.
Guest00:34:05You're right. I've never seen Gladiator starring Russell Crowe.
Sonny00:34:09Hold on. Um, let me let me just again, I'm pulling up his his. All right. So you've never seen you didn't see Greenland. Nope.
Guest00:34:18You. You guys talked me out of that. It's so stupid.
Sonny00:34:23We all liked it. Well, I liked it, too. What are you talking about? Who talked you out of it? It's a beacon. Fellas. I liked it. JBL like. JBL loved it. I liked it. Yeah. I told you I liked it. I told you. You should watch it. You didn't. You didn't see.
Guest00:34:40You did see Den of Thieves. I did see Den of Thieves and I've seen rock and roll, which I don't consider a Gerard Butler movie.
Sonny00:34:45But you did not see Geostorm. No, I did not see Geostorm. You did not see. You did not see London Has Fallen.
Guest00:34:51Nope. None of the Has Fallen expanded universe.
Sonny00:34:54I mean, Olympus Olympus Has Fallen is a great action, great title action movie. I hard recommend you gods of Egypt. I did not see God.
Guest00:35:04Can I ask a question about the Has Fallen expanded universe? Sure. So, you know, Murder, She Wrote that really the better reading of Mercer wrote is that Jessica Fletcher was the serial killer where in the show, the premise was that she went around solving all these murders when in fact, the most just the most the best read on it is that, in fact, she is the serial killer. So is Gerard Butler the weak link in these has felt like everywhere he goes, there are these security flaws where, you know, the White House falls, London falls. What else? Like, like, he is presumably the hero. And yet these are you blame?
Sonny00:35:54How dare you blame Mike Banning, hero, Secret Service agent for North Korea invading America? I mean, that that is what happens in Olympus has fallen or little North Korea able to invade
Guest00:36:10America.
Sonny00:36:11We'll see this. They actually do a much better job of it than the Red Dawn remake where they're like, North Korea is just invading the entire west coast of America. That's nonsense. But what? What Olympus has fallen posits is that one very crack team of North Korean commandos hijacks a plane and basically crashes it into the mall and then and then uses I can't remember like some sort of they use heavy vehicles to smash into the White House and then they take the White House and Olympus Falls Olympus has fallen along with the sleeper agent in
Guest00:36:46the White House.
Sonny00:36:47Yeah, but yeah, there's there's definitely I want to say it's Dylan McDermott, but it might be Dermot Mulroney. I can't remember which let's you didn't you didn't see machine gun preacher. I was about to say, I know you've seen machine gun preacher. You didn't see law abiding citizen in your church. You didn't see we didn't see gamer the gamer bounty hunter rock and roll. You did.
Guest00:37:12You did see rock and roll. I did see rock and roll. I have not seen Reign of Fire with Matthew McConaughey isn't doesn't have Maddie in it.
Sonny00:37:18Oh yeah, that is. Yeah. He's in that. Yeah. Apparently. McConaughey. 300. I mean, I can't believe you haven't seen 300 so good. I don't know. You're you're. You would say that. You need to go see more. You need to go see more Gerard Butler movies is my takeaway from this conversation already.
Guest00:37:38Okay, I will see Gods of Egypt tomorrow.
Sonny00:37:43That's the maybe the worst one you could do. But actually, he's actually he's actually he plays a villain in that he plays set. In that which is kind of amusing because it really he really gets to lean into the being a dirtbag asshole.
Guest00:37:58So I have a question because I don't remember the party played in rock and roll is how many movies does he use his Scottish accent? Like is this like one of the first one words where he's allowed to like to use his Scottish accent in all of them? I feel like always.
Sonny00:38:15Okay, so you're saying it's like it's like Dennis Reynolds, you're saying it's like Dennis
Guest00:38:20Reynolds playing Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon where like it like it's always coming through the Australian accent.
Sonny00:38:29Yes, it's always going to be there. The Irish is Scottish, Scottish, at least if you Yes, Scottish, or replace the Tom Lasseter
Guest00:38:39thing. The Welsh accent.
Sonny00:38:41No, I just made a mistake. So let's talk about that a little longer. Yeah. Anyway.
Guest00:38:50Plane Plane is a plane stars Gerard Butler. Can I can I do the big player of you? Yes, I actually heard playing for it. It's not what you think. You hear plane and I know what you're thinking, Sonny. The Great Plains, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, the state above South Dakota, alluvial plane, erosional planes, abyssal plane, you know, flat land. Or I can see on studies faith, maybe you're thinking about the adjective, the opposite of elaborate, ordinary, basic, you know, Kristen Stewart. But no, this is plain p l a n e tour, but not like a horizontal plane or even the idea of a level of existence or consciousness. It's about an aeroplane. Well, sort of. Plane is a compelling documentary about profit hungry airline business that sends Welsh pilot Brody Torrance into a storm rather than spend a little extra on fuel to go around the storm. Torrance and his copilot, who both still print out pictures of their loved ones and look at them repeatedly so that we know that there are stakes. They attempt to climb above the storm. Pilots have to do that. Does every pilot do that? Do they print out a picture of their loved ones?
Sonny00:40:23It's part of the training. You have to.
Guest00:40:25Yeah, they have a printer right there. Yeah. So they attempt to climb above the storm only for them to get struck by lightning, which fries everything like everything, like even the black box gets fried. So they prepare for a water landing and we're given this like they have 10 minutes and mumble mumble. I don't know.
Sonny00:40:46Ten minutes. Ten minutes before it shuts down before the batteries run out. She'll give us more. She'll give us more cells, some power, the airplane that they but they got into stoppage time because they did because they were like ten minutes and then he's like ten minutes. There's land ten minutes plus ten seconds.
Guest00:41:05And so he successfully lands and not only did he spot an island, there's a road. So they're able to land safely on a remote island south of the Philippines. The passengers cheer. The movie ends. Just kidding. Turns out landing the plane was the least of their worries. The island they landed on is controlled by a separatist militia who play unlike other militias. This militia plays by their own rules and the passengers become hostages. There we go. It's my review.
Sonny00:41:39That's about it. That's like here's. So the thing about plane is that it is the most predictable movie that has ever been made. It is. And it's surprising on any level. So one of the things that Christopher did not mention is that there's a there's a convict on board. There's a fugitive from justice, a murderer who has been captured. He's being transferred to how dangerous could he be? The Canadians caught him. Yeah. I mean, I wouldn't say he's it might as well been caught by a Swede. But the but the like they're taking this guy back. But he's clear that he's got, you know, a secret. We is he is he a killer with a heart of gold? Question mark? Maybe. Maybe. It turns out he is. Turns out he's a good guy. He's been a good guy this whole time. Just saying he defends all the passengers from being murdered and he fights with Captain Captain Jack Torrance. What's his name? Brody Torrance. Jack Sparrow. Jack Jack. But he but like so like literally every plot point that you you see coming is exactly what happens to the to to the extent that like when they land the plane, you're like, OK, they're going to have to get back on the plane and take off. Right. That's like how they're getting off this island. That's why the movie is called Plane. It has to be. That has to be the answer here. And sure enough, with like ten minutes left, they get back on the plane, which has been miraculously fixed by the copilot who unplugged the thing and he screwed something else back in and it all just came back on.
Guest00:43:14If you were a listener to our podcast, which I can't believe we've gone this long and not mentioned the SSEU podcast, you would know that Ryan is a bit of an expert at electronics and turns out you could just if you want to upgrade your fuse box, you could just jam bigger fuses in and I have notes written down 40 amp fuse. There's something there under the plane. The copilot right is under the plane.
Sonny00:43:44Everything is fried and somehow there's a 40 amp fuse. I thought it was. He sound like Shrek when he when he talked about that. This what happens when a 40 amp fuse get hit with enough juice to light up a city. That's exactly what he said. That is what he sounded like. Juice to light up a city.
Guest00:44:04Yes.
Sonny00:44:05That's what he sounded like. I got I had my phone out in the movie theater. I took that down. Yeah. Wait a second. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Time out. Time out. Were you taking notes on your phone? Yep. What would you use?
Guest00:44:20A pencil and paper? Just jotting down.
Sonny00:44:22You just got your bright flashlight of a phone on. You're just jotting down notes there. Yeah. I did. I could turn down the all the way down to 50% a bunch of savages.
Guest00:44:33I'm sure it really bothered the two other people in the theater.
Sonny00:44:37Yeah. When did you when did you go see the movie, Ryan? Uh, between the call I got and then no, it was like like one 1:00 p.m. I think I got in there.
Guest00:44:51So it was your prep for your job interview.
Sonny00:44:53That's great. I had to leave for like 15 minutes of it. So there was a there's a bit of a missed in the middle because I had to make it take another call. But so I figured it out.
Guest00:45:02I wasn't lost when I came back because again, like Sonny said, you could predict each beat of the film and not only the beats and characters like they had, like the dickhead passengers, right?
Sonny00:45:14The guys like like like the two bald white guys. Yes. Right. Like like the worst people on planet Earth, like the gold entitled white guys. Yep. And so, yeah, because when they go first, go through the storm and like really jostles everybody around and Brody says, keep everybody locked down and but. He decides to strike, we're in it, we're still in this store bouncing everybody around. The captain is going to unstrap and just walk around, just walk down the cabin and if it is up gate falling and like bashing. He's bashing his head into something I was waiting for him to say he's waiting for that to pay off. Honestly, I don't even fly well until I get bashed in the head like I'm like, wait a second.
Guest00:45:57He's concussed. Like surely he's like, no, like they do not even like so he's got a little bit of blood on his. But like he literally like flies off the ground and bashes his head.
Sonny00:46:08So I mean, I think I think it's obvious that he was he is just like John McClane from Die Hard. You know, he's a he's a flawed hero. He's a flawed guy, you know, just like. Like John McClane. Yeah, I was like, didn't spend time with his kids. He drinks too much. He he cusses, you know, too much as people he's a dick to his wife and then Brody Torrance. I mean, sure, you know, he's a widower, takes care of his his wife. But I think we saw a bit of his darkness when he was wait, you must have missed his daughter.
Guest00:46:39His wife died.
Sonny00:46:40Oh, yeah. His wife is dead.
Guest00:46:42Or so. Or so widower led to believe.
Sonny00:46:44Yeah, yeah. I said widower. Maybe, maybe, maybe his rage killed her. And I was saying. In a fit of rage. I was saying John McClane is a dick. No, you guys are screwing this up. He we saw we saw Brody Torrance's dark side when he was on the phone with his daughter. I think she kind of hinted at it seems like maybe he's a he's a bit of a problem with punctuality. I mean, can you believe this guy? I'll see you tonight. Like he's he might he might be a little late flying across the country. What a piece of shit. What a flawed hero he is. This is this like he was like John McClane. But with like, you know, just like a G rated thing, because it seemed like they wanted us to think like he was kind of this rough guy that, you know, that has flaws, but he really didn't. I mean, he was just, you know, think Brody's regular guy who? Yeah, down to the best part and better. I wanted him to be his character from Den of Thieves, where he's like eating a donut from the crime scene. It's like putting the donut on the body. Yeah, the no, again, this this the the script of this movie is so incredibly like paint by numbers and predictable, where to the extent that like there's even a scene where they're like, we got fired from his last job as being a pilot. And that's why he's working these shitty routes in Singapore. And they show the video of him like choking out choking out a passenger who assaulted a flight attendant and then him punched him. Yeah. Punched him. The captain punched the captain in the face. And so the captain showed up to have video of it exonerating him. There's no there's no person in America who would not be like, no, he was a hero. This is like this. This man, he would have been Sully Sullenberger would have been completely forgotten. But him and Sully would have done like a speaking tour across the country, be like, here's how you maintain your cool under pressure. You know, here's how you can land a plane on water and here's how you choke out. You do a rear naked choke. Choke on a guy who you know that they could have there could there should have been no video and it would have just been like the passengers were a word versus Brody and maybe maybe not. But they have video showing, no, the passenger was insane and he like stopped further violence from happening. So yeah. And then you have the you you have the guy from Scandal, the president from Scandal, who's like, I like this guy more already. And we all agree with him because it's right. It's like the it's the most obvious. You know, clear cut case of decency, decent, decent aggression and brutality that you've ever seen on screen. It's amazing.
Guest00:49:27So you're saying, like, it's just unsubtle in its way to get the audience on, like to be like pro Gerard Butler's character.
Sonny00:49:36Yeah. But I will say I will say that this is why the movie is also effective. This is why it is like this is totally, you know, 15 years ago, there's a 50 50 shot that this movie becomes like a TNT classic overnight. This just goes into constant rotation on TNT, TBS, AMC, whatever, just like constantly showing because it is it is so predictable. You can jump in at any moment. You know exactly what's happening. There's nothing there's nothing that you could possibly miss in this movie and be confused about what is happening 15 minutes later, it like all it all tracks on like the most basic generic level possible and there's something like that is that is it's easy to sneer at that sort of thing is like, oh, well, this is boring and predictable. But that's also like there's that's there's real storytelling craft there that like I this sounds this sounds ridiculous, but like making his story that generic and passable on every level is not is not easy. Lots of lots of movies don't accomplish it. You're saying and if you're not if you're not going for anything better than that and you nail it, well, then you've done what you're trying to do. You're saying the fact that an A.I. could have written the script. It is a good thing. Can't prove to me that an A.I. did not write this script. The only reason the only reason an A.I. might not have written this script is because there was no character with like 17 fingers.
Guest00:51:00OK, good reference. So Sonny, what do you know about Gerard Butler as a producer? Because he was a producer on this. And I'll tell you what, I like I failed as like a a a human being who knows how to work Bing because I was like trying to research him. I was Bing in his name. This is not a bit. I'm not trying to set up a joke. I did not find that much on him, except that like he is an active producer. And so maybe like I don't know if that means that he's got like clauses in there to make him look the best. Like, you know, what was that Fast and Furious spinoff between with The Rock and Jason Statham where like they both had to win every fight? Like is it like one of those things where it's like, oh, he like his character has to look the best, but he's a very active producer and he's been had a producer credit on like almost all of his recent films. Like, let me see, like, I don't know, his last like eight films. He's a producer. Is he is he known as an active producer?
Sonny00:52:04So he he has a his own production single shingle G base, I think is what it's called. And it depends. I would I would not. Yes. Want to malign Gerard Butler and his capabilities or talents as a producer. But usually with a star of his caliber and magnitude, what will end up happening is, you know, when he gets attached to a picture, his production shingle gets gets attached as like a producer producing partner. I don't think he's like line producing. I don't think he's out there. Oh, you know, making making sure that, you know, the the craft services budget is right. Right. He's making sure that he's not. He's making sure that there's like water fountains there instead of, you know, water bottles or whatever. But the but I do. But like, I think if the question is, does he deserve to produce? Well, if the question is, does he deserve the producer credit, the answer is almost certainly yes. Because a movie a movie like this does not get made without Gerard Butler attached to it. It's made for like three million dollars and it stars like, you know, I don't know. Tom Barringer or something.
Guest00:53:23It's also like the one bit of like trivia that I found because the IMD page IMDb page is almost blank.
Sonny00:53:30Chris, do you know that I got the the month of IMDb pro for free from I've got I've got G base's phone number right here. We can we can give him a call and find out about this. OK, well, you do that while I share a bit of trivia. How much what did Gerard Butler do on this movie to get a producer credit? Fucking tell us. He deserve it. Does he deserve it? OK, I mean, here's a bit of trivia.
Guest00:53:54The studio wanted a different title for this movie, but Gerard Butler insisted on keeping the title simple and went with playing.
Sonny00:54:03That's what a producer does. It's what a producer that's a that's a key producer role. My understanding is so I think he was also a producer on Cop Shop. You might want to check that for me. But he. He that movie had a famously very troubled production, which is kind of ironic because it's probably Joe Carnahan's best movie since the gray. But the there's there was a there was a lot of there was a lot of tension between at least this is my understanding. There was a lot of tension between Carnahan and Butler and there was some some dispute over which. Of the film that they should put in theaters. And again, my understanding is that Gerard Butler won out in part because he's he was the producer. He you know, he got the he got kind of final say and it that and it worked out for that movie because it you know. If you haven't seen Topshop, you should see it. I know you haven't seen it. Chris. Yeah, you should have. I've not seen it either. I did not.
?00:55:16Yeah.
Sonny00:55:17I don't even remember when this this came out in 2021.
Guest00:55:21Sonny, if you if you could have titled this movie, what would you have titled it? Claim. Yeah. Like, is it like literally just like it's cleaner?
Sonny00:55:33I mean, I like I'm I'm pro dumb, short names for things. I'm pro like ambulance channel. Or your channel. I don't know. Is that even a movie? Is that a. Is that a real movie? This is not. Is that a Seinfeld? Was that a Seinfeld? Seinfeld movie? Seinfeld. Lunch. Uh. Uh. Or Bullet Train. Bullets. A good a good name. Well, the train works because, you know, it does kind of obliquely reference weapons. So it's not just. The train.
Guest00:56:09Yeah, because I suppose sometimes you you can get an overpromise if it's like, you know, tears of the sun, like, you know, some sometimes that works, you know, and sometimes it's like just the simplicity of, you know, plain, plain, plain.
Sonny00:56:31The Facebook. I'm pro plane. I'm pro. I don't. I like. What are you going to you could call it turbulence, but that's already been taken. Speaking of Tom Barringer, I think, um, yeah, yeah, I guess.
Guest00:56:45Like, I don't. I don't know what I would name it, but it's just plain does not really. Like it's more like, you know, hostage, you know? Oh, okay. How are they going to get to the island?
Sonny00:56:56Is a hostage going to take me to the island? All right. Okay. How are they going to get away from the island?
Guest00:57:01How are they going to get off the island? Let me ask you this. Okay. I don't mean to pick apart the plot. Sorry, Ryan. Did you want to finish?
?00:57:07No.
Sonny00:57:08Okay. I don't know where I was going.
Guest00:57:10Tell me this, like, I understand that the fear, okay, once they get on that boat and they're taken somewhere else, like they're lost forever. But like, what are the motivation of these people holding hostages? Like isn't the greatest value just straight up cash of exchanging them for cash? Because like they do have this power in the separatist area, but like what we see this video of like various people and passports, but it doesn't seem like they're in it for the ransom. I mean, you know, they're bad guys. Just general back. Okay.
Sonny00:57:51I don't know. I don't know what you want from me. Like it's it's a generic. It's a generic radical separatist, Islamic, probably terrorist group. I don't know, man. They're like, we don't need to know what you're asking.
Guest00:58:06Like you're asking, I'm saying like, they should just to amp up the stakes. They're like, well, they're not just going to exchange them for money. Like they're going to get on a boat. And disappear forever, presumably be trafficked. I don't know.
Sonny00:58:21Ah, well, I mean, I think they're just trying to get them off the island to someplace else where they can be held hostage and no one knows where they are.
Guest00:58:27Okay.
Sonny00:58:28Okay. I don't think they're being sent to like a like a sex slave camp. You know, I don't think I don't think they're being sent to where Ryan went to for an hour
Guest00:58:41to both men would be worth a lot at the sex camp like they would be. Yeah. Hard workers. Maybe. Maybe somebody has a kink for being berated by for every move question.
Sonny00:58:54Why do we have to do that?
Guest00:58:55Yeah.
Sonny00:58:56Okay. What now? He just likes it. It's the worst. The worst sort of archetype character where he's just like, ah, I'm never flying this airline again, where the pilot miraculously the pilot miraculously landed in the middle of the fucking jungle, like, I'm never flying these these assholes again. I'm like, okay, well, you know, it's not his fault. You're likely not getting out of here, so you're probably you're not flying anywhere ever again. You've already lost the customer. And then at the beginning, when that that guy, the one ball guy, he, like, wipes down some stuff and then just like hands it to the yeah, to the flight attendant as she's walking by. Just like that's that's the kind of guy we're getting here to this with.
Guest00:59:41Here's my trash.
Sonny00:59:43I love it. And it's it's also funny because none of the other passengers are particularly virtuous, really. Like, they don't really do anything like except except for Mike Coulter as the fugitive from Justice, who turns out to be the murderer with the heart of gold like the the like everybody else is just kind of there.
Guest01:00:04I'd say those two young ladies had a lot of girls were like, you did a lot of virtue.
Sonny01:00:08Do you say the ladies? Yeah, because they were they're trying to take a selfie with the with the. Prisoner in the background.
Guest01:00:18It does not want his photo, the virtue of being young and hot, but the Swedish did not look Swedish at all. Like were you surprised? They're like, yeah, I'm Swedish.
Sonny01:00:31Was there a line where she said she's Swedish?
Guest01:00:33Yeah. Like they're like, where's your pattern? I remember like the one chick was from. I don't know.
Sonny01:00:38Oh, that's right. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Did did not look like Thomas did not look like one of Thomas's. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, that's that's. All right. So what did you guys like the movie? Do you do? Do you still do you say thumbs up, thumbs down? What's the what's the verdict here? What do you grind? I I think I gave it three planes, three plane out of how many planes? Oh, we don't do that. We don't. We don't do that. Yeah. It's just three points.
Guest01:01:12I don't know if it was because I watched it alone at 10:45 a.m. but I felt like this was a perfectly competent like it was, you know, decently cast and acted. And it wasn't like any of it was particularly cringy or bad. In fact, there was a little bit of tension in as as Gerard Butler's like trying to make the phone call out. And yeah, I understand, like it would've been easy to understand that the the the murder is going to actually be really good. But. He kind of shows his face, you hear you hear gun shots and it's like, oh, well, he came to save Gerard Butler. Like, I think it worked in a way, but I was also not at all emotionally invested. And part of that may have been the script. Like at the end, when they land, there is a charged hug. I don't mean charge. It's a very sarcastic like there is a like strangers meeting and like being forced to hug. It's like that flight attendant who actually has lines and Gerard Butler. And she says, thank you so much. That's kind of like the.
Sonny01:02:24It's like it's it's so comically professional. Yeah. Like it's it's the sort of thing where, like in a Michael Bay movie, they're they're like they're like back in the plane and fucking right. But as they cut, as they fade the black. But in this movie, it's just like, ah, good job, captain. In the beginning, I kind of thought that that's what they were going to do. They're going to go with Gerard Butler's character when he's like talking to the flight attendants before they take off. OK, are they going to say, like, he's kind of, you know, being old, but now he's not perfectly professional guy. Totally, totally. I'm standing. Yeah. It's just it's just decent. He's just from start to finish. Got railroaded because of that viral video in which he was the hero. And now and now he can't ever see his daughter again because of the assholes. What is it? What's the airline?
Guest01:03:14Like, oh, what's the name of the airline?
Sonny01:03:18Fairbanks Airlines or some nonsense like that?
Guest01:03:22I think it was like literally like owned by that guy in the crisis room. Like I think he was the owner, not the CEO, but like it was like not a it was like a probably a privately held company. But yeah, what was the name of it, Ryan? Are you looking it up?
Sonny01:03:37No, I'm not looking it up now. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. All right. Yeah. He was the owner because he he had the. Authority to say, no, the lawyers don't have to leave when when what's that actor's name first walked in? Tony Goldwyn. We don't they're going to have to hire mercenaries. He's like the lawyers aren't going to want to hear this is like, it's fine. I feel like Tony Goldwyn is an underrated actor. I feel like he should be in more things like I guess he was on Scandal for like 12 seasons or something, however long that show was on. But oh, I like him. I like him a lot. And I'm like, here's a here's a competent person who knows what they're doing. Right. Yeah. He was great. Yeah. I totally worked in this. And I mean, everything worked and just like it was it was fun as like as much as like it's funny to mock it for being predictable, it was still yeah, I mean, you got George Butler's going to going to going to take care of you is like no matter how cheesy it is, you're going to be like, yeah, that's fine. I got my guy up there. Yeah. He's you guys should watch. I think you would like Copshop. I think you would. It's like it's like total it's like Den of Thieves, Gerard Butler, except like actively evil instead of, you know, kind of good. The action here by his own rules action here.
Guest01:04:56I kind of enjoyed like watching Mike Coulter like kill those guys with a sledgehammer. That was kind of cool.
?01:05:02Yeah.
Sonny01:05:03Yeah. This director did the Mel Gibson movie Bloodfather, which I don't know if you guys saw that, but it was also like kind of like it was OK. It was I like this more than Bloodfather. But Bloodfather had the same kind of like amusing moments of like very brutal violence, like just kind of out of nowhere. Is that the recent one? Yes. Or was that the one from like five years ago where he was like it was like five or six years ago. He was like a biker is like the motorcycle, the guy and his daughter is kidnapped or something. Right. That was pretty good.
Guest01:05:38Yeah. Yeah. But mostly he's done French films, which I mean, I guess. Mel Gibson? Oh, no. The director.
Sonny01:05:47Kind of like names like Jean-Francois, Richard Richer, man, I'm trying to say, I like the
Guest01:05:55way they think.
Sonny01:05:57John, Jean-Francois Parisian. I like that he did a reverse taken in this one where the daughter is on the phone with the dad while he gets jumped.
Guest01:06:10That's a twist.
Sonny01:06:11I never saw coming. That was clever.
?01:06:13That was a nice twist.
Sonny01:06:14Someone should remake taken, but like reverse it. Yes. That's actually kind of what Taken 3 is, I think, isn't it? Doesn't like... I'm not from the time yet to get...
Guest01:06:28Just throw the reverse taken into the butthole AI movie. That's probably like the last bit of spice that it needs.
Sonny01:06:40It's all coming together. Well, see, now I've given away the idea that somebody's going to steal it and somebody's going to make the Ryan Reynolds AI butthole movie and I'm going to be out in the cold.
Guest01:06:52I think that this would hold up in court as like us having the idea of us really together, which I think Ryan and I will get as much credit as you.
Sonny01:07:02Sure. That makes sense. That makes sense. This is... We submit this to WGA arbitration. It'll hold up. I think. I think it'll hold up. All right. That's all the time we're giving this week. Big show. What are you drinking, Chris?
Guest01:07:15I'm drinking a Pinot Noir.
Sonny01:07:18What kind of Pinot Noir?
Guest01:07:19An Angeline.
Sonny01:07:20I don't know what that is. Costco. Is that a good... Is that good?
Guest01:07:25Is it Costco?
?01:07:26It's a good value.
Sonny01:07:27See, that's the kind of wine I like. I'm not a wine snob. No... I like wines that cost between $10 and $12.
Guest01:07:35Yeah. And if you get this one at the right place, it's under $10 actually.
?01:07:38It's about $1.
Sonny01:07:39See? Perfect. What are you drinking? And if you buy a pallet of it at Costco, someone will ask you, "Oh, somebody's
Guest01:07:43gonna have a party." Another thing that you're missing if you don't listen to the SSCU podcast. Also, I have a relationship with my local wine store guy, and I buy it by the case, which is why it's a $13 wine that I get for $8.90, $8.50 a bottle.
Sonny01:08:00That's a good discount. Mm-hmm. It's like 30% off. It's a good deal. What are you drinking, Sonny? It's nice to be nice to people. I'm drinking nothing. I'm drinking... I don't even have a Diet Dr. Pepper in here. I forgot to grab one before the... Before the show. So, I'm doing... I'm doing dry January. I'm... Are you? I'm sobering up for this month. This is the first time I've ever done it before. I feel great. I don't wanna murder everyone all the time 'cause I'm sober. So it's great.
?01:08:28It's wonderful.
Sonny01:08:29Oh. Yeah. What about you, Ryan? What are you drinking? I didn't... I rushed in here. I didn't even have time to grab anything. I'm... I... I have nothing to drink.
Guest01:08:40Are you drinking your own urine again?
Sonny01:08:41I wish I could... I wish I could have it. I wish I could have a drink. Yeah. I've got my LifeStraw and I... You know, I sometimes will dip that into the toilet if I'm really thirsty. All right. All right. That's all the time we're giving to this show. Thanks for listening. Leave comments. Listen to the SSCU podcast. Listen... Listen to the SSCU podcast. Where can they find you? On Patreon?
Guest01:09:03Don't. On Patreon as well. But yeah. Just on every podcast... We dare you.

Guest01:09:09But yeah. Patreon.com/SSEUpodcast. Yeah. Patreon.com/SSEUpodcast. JustPod. Is it Pod or is it Podcast? I can't remember.
Sonny01:09:16It's JustPod. I wish we could have gotten JustPod. JustPod.com. JustPod.com. All right. See you guys next week. Do you guys have anything for outtakes? Should I just list more Gerard Butler movies? Phantom of the Opera. Tell me all the ones I'm supposed to see.
?01:09:26Phantom of the Opera. I haven't seen Phantom of the Opera. I haven't seen Phantom of the Opera. I haven't seen Phantom of the Opera.

?01:09:42What were you doing in 2007?
Sonny01:09:43I have this part of me that when everybody loves something to a certain extent, it makes me just never wanna watch it. Oh, you're a dick. That's what happened with Napoleon Dynamite. I got sick of everyone telling me how great it was.
